Hello everyone,
Been browsing the last few days and learning a lot about the DS. I notice that there are not very many guys on here. I'm hoping that some will speak up and tell me about their adventures in weightlossness.
I am in the beginning stages of getting accepted as a patient to Dr. Marshall in Peoria, IL. since I live only 30 min away from there.
Some things about me. I am married, 3 kids 2 dogs. I have a desk job at a major manufacturer in the area.
I'm 35yrs old , 5'8" HW of 306, and am really starting to notice my weight is making my life miserable.
Between work life and home life, I am exhausted every night, Can't exercise very much due to aching joints in my knees, (previous injuries that excess weight has made worse). My families diet is not that good, but working on improving that as I can.
I'm ready for a big change.......
Thanks for reading.
Marc D.

Welcome aboard, Marc.
I don't have much to report, as I'm a pre-op myself. But I'm sure others will chime in.

Welcome Marc! I know that there are several men on here who are active participants (but you're right that there are not nearly as many as women). In fact, a few of them are quite new so you'll have an opportunity to read about their journey thus far. A few of them have terrific success stories and amazing before and after pictures. If you have a minute, go to the main board to find the before and after pictures and you'll see a few of the guys who have posted there. Bryan is one of the men who is fresh out from surgery (I think by just a few weeks like me), and then Pktwatch had surgery late last summer or early fall. Slim had surgery about 2 years ago or so, and then there is BigCoop who is scheduled to have his surgery within the next few weeks and of course CBramsey who had his DS back at the end of 2010. Plus DSnuts is new too (and many more others) I'm sure they'll chime in here--so just sit tight! You've come to the right place and I welcome you to our little family! (And I'm sending your your very first *exalt*).
Sheri

Hi Marc,
I had a very similar situation to you. 2 years out now and happy as a clam at high tide. Gets a bit rough for a day or two now and then (usually due to my choosing to eat the wrong things) but I wouldn't change for the world.

Marc, Welcome!!!!!!!!!! Just a CAUTION............ I do not see your doc listed on the vetted list of DS docs on www.dsfacts.com/(left hand side -- DS surgeons) PLEASE, PLEASE chose a surgeon who is well versed in this surgery, and not by location/convience. That can be A Very Dangerous Decision!!!!! Welcome to the board!!!!!! Read & re-read DSfacts. GREAT website!!!!

Hi Marc, Welcome! My brother, Joe, is a DS'er. He had his DS on his 40th birthday, and went from over 350 lbs to about 190 lbs. He's a member here, and although he doesn't post much I'm sure he'll be glad to PM with you. If you're interested send me a PM and I'll introduce the two of you.
Joe has 4 children and I know the DS has changed his health and his life.

Ahoy-oy! There's quite a few guys here, but they're not as chirpy as us gals can be at times.

I am trying to do some last minute research so I can relax a couple of days before I go in. I have been seeking surgery for close to 5 years and now am counting down the days. Still wondering if another delay will pop up, sure hope not. Feel free to contact me if you like.

Marc's surgeon is who did my surgery....although he isn't on the list you mention, his surgery center is a Bariatric Surgery Center of Excellence noted by the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). There are 3 bariatric surgeons in the office and they have great qualifications....so I think he's in good hands :-)

Welcome. This is a great place to gather information. The members here share their experiences and are a great resource of weight loss surgery information.

Another guy here.
Over three years out...lost 150 lbs quickly and easily...and have maintained an ideal weight without any problems at all. Feel great, look great, and enjoy eating all foods. No problems with getting in protein, calcium, vitamin D and all the other supplements, and my labs are good. No intestinal or troublesome gas issues. I have no physical feeling that I'm surgically altered, just the feeling of being healthy and active.
You made the right choice. Congratulations on the new life awaiting you.

Do you have any idea how many DS procedures he has done? (And my apologies if that question has been asked and answered. I'm a bit in la-la land at the moment.)

Hi Marc. I am a pre-op hoping for surgery around July. i am on my second month of Dr. supervised diet, and just this week cleared the Psych part of the process. Actually it is going faster than i thought!! Anyway Welcome aboard, and read all you can about the DS and ask alot of questions. The vets here are pretty nice, and truly seem to care about the people who have had, or are going to have the DS.
Your right not a whole bunch of guys here, but plenty of support it seems when needed. Also i do believe the women here could "Talk a buzzard of a meat truck" not meant in a bad way!!!
