Hey, new guy! You're in for quite an adventure with the DS! Nice to see someone around my area. I just moved to Galesburg, IL. It's good to know there is a DS surgeon fairly close. Do you know how many Dr. Marshall has done?

Do you know how many Dr. Marshall has done? Well, the surgical group Dr. Marshal is with says they have done 1500 ( for three bariatric surgeons) on the their website. All the reviews for him I have read say abou the same thing. VERY competent surgeon, lacks some bedside manors...... but hey, I'd rather have experience and competency rather than long winded bedside chats. All three surgeons there do the DS, but only Dr. Marshall has the LAPROSCOPIC training for the DS.

I'm getting excited, My meeting to begin the journey is Monday the 6th. I wish my information packet would get here form the hospital.
The more I read here and other places, the DS is the one I want. I started out just looking at the VSG, and then I read that the VSG had the most likely hood of not keeping the weight off (2nd only to the LAP BAND).
I'm only doing this once, and I want it to be the best one for me and my goals. My goals are not cumulative, the doctor's goal for me may be though.
What I want out of this lifestyle change is freedom. Freedom to go places with out be self-conscious, or feeling out of place, or worrying if I fit! I want the freedom to exercise with way less pain and discomfort. I want to know I can make better food choices, and stick with it. There's too many other things I want from this tool, and some I cannot even express in words. Losing the pounds is Awesome, but many of us have been there many times. More awesome to me is being able to lose it, and keep it off easier and WAY longer than before.
I'm really looking forward to this. Nothing Will stop me, I am determined. ( delays, I feel, are immanent though)
P.S. I took some advice that I read here and started taking a multi-vitamin every morning now. (learning quickly.....)

Welcome to the proboards! You will want to stay and learn here, as there is much info that even surgeons do not know, so are unable to share with you. I do think it's important to know how many DSs your surgeon has done. It's a very difficult surgery, and requires great skill. So, don't poo-poo that question. It's asked with only the very best of intentions. We have seen some real tragedies that could have been avoided.

Thanks everyone,
finally got my information pack, Not much different than the hospitals website info, except, the first steps class that I have to take is $370 out of my pocket. I think I gotta get my tax return back first....... we will see what i can pull off.
Once I pay that, the rest is insurance ( should be )...
