I have decided to do VitaLady DS pre packaged vitamins the first couple of months after surgery to help with the transition to DS lifestyle. I had full intentions of doing it on my own, but the price is not much different than what she offers, and the convenience will be welcomed during my initial recovery period. My question is this; what probiotic is best to take, and when do you take it? Alone or ok with other meds? Is it necessary? Also, I plan to incorporate a PPI first thing in the am prior to taking any other meds. Are there any other suppliments I should add to my pre packaged meds? I'm only doing the pre packaged vitamins until my first post op labs, then will change accordingly. K2 isn't included, should I add that myself in the beginning? Thank you for the info. I try not to ask anything unless I'm at my wits end trying to decide what's best, and can't figure it out. Thanks!

At first, a probiotic that is easy to swallow, a liquid form, may be a good idea. I couldn't take pills for the first thirty days or so. After playing around with different probiotics for two years, now I use Florastor. Many people have different preferences - like everything else DS, YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary). Some other things I found helpful include Devrom, a chewable pill for dealing with flatulence smell - doesn't improve anything else, though. Papaya enzyme is a chewable which I found helps when I am feeling some stomach discomfort. Rather than ordering the VitaLady online just before surgery, call ahead to find out if they have it in stock - I did hear of a newbie who was not able to get their initial supplements in time, and was waiting for the back order. I used their supplements for the first three months and found it helpful..Good luck, and hope all goes well on your journey!

Don't worry about a probiotic for a while. The first 30 days the only thing you need to focus on is staying hydrated, working your way up to 30 grams of protein per day, introducing your vitamins (very slowly). Your insides are very tender the first couple of months so you want to be gentle with only giving it what it really, really needs - water and protein. I'm sure others who are not as far out as I am will response. Sometimes it's hard to remember what it was like at the very beginning. You're also a revision, so there may be other issues as well that I'm not familiar with. Try to slow down and take a breath. I realize just how overwhelming this whole process is but you'll do fine
