I haven't been on the group list for a week or two because I've been traveling. Saturday, I got back from a trip to Florida where i stayed at an airbnb residence. Lovely people, and I picked a room with private bath so I would have my privacy. Came armed with my Devrom and Ozium. Just wrote a glowing review of the place, when I see a private comment from the owners that there is a lingering smell in the bathroom they have not been able to remove, no matter how hard they clean. Oy - guess I'll have to go back to the anonymity of hotel stays! Any advice out there for the owners?

No, I don't have any advice. I know Just a Drop...bought it at Walmart, I think - seems to really help. Put it in before you do your business.
Did you eat something you shouldn't have? Sometimes that will really make my poo stink. I live alone so I don't have those issues, but I wonder sometimes if my cleaning lady smells my poo when she cleans the bathroom.

I would just spray with ozium or citrafresh. I've never had a smell linger like that. They could also Lysol the bowl. I just find it pretty unusual that it would linger like that.

Poo- Pourri is MAGIC. I can poop anywhere. And my stink lingers too, without it. I also clean the bowl each time too!

Ceramic doesn't absorb odors, so my guess would be a poorly draining sewer. But if you want to make a peace offering, I use X-O, which was recommended to me by the caregiver of a colostomy patient. It comes in concentrated form and can be used straight, or diluted in spray bottles. It lasts forever when diluted and removes fabric odors that persist after washing when used straight on the offending area. Works on pet odors too. An alternative would be to take a gallon of bleach or ammonia and flush it down the bathroom toilet in repeated flushings. My neighbor did that for her husband's issues. He wasnt a DS patient. Never heard of DS odor persisting over time despite cleaning, so I don't think it's your fault. I know we all have sensitivities about this, but I think it can be exaggerated in your mind when it isn't that dramatic in reality.

I can't believe the owners actually commented on it! I wonder what they expected you to say?

It might not be in the bowl. Wallpaper, linens, etc.
My car STINKS no matter how much I air it out.

I don't have lingering issues like that unless I have a bacterial imbalance. A couple of days of Flagyl and it is gone.
Otherwise smell is completely dependent on the carbs I have had and that I can control.
In the bathroom I use Yankee Candle Sun and Sand scented spray. They are a little pricey ($5-$7 for one small can), but one spritz does the trick and I wait for sales to stock up.
From caring for my incontinent mother I learned that anti-microbial Febreze does wonders, but you need to drench surfaces. That may not work on wallpaper.
My advice:
Get rid of the wallpaper and any other fabrics/carpet that can't be tossed in the wash or steam cleaned.

I wonder if they have a sewer leak. The smell can linger but that seems excessive.

I had sprayed with Ozium while I was there. They just began renting the house a few months ago, and may not have been using the best cleaning products, and the bathroom did not have a vent. I recommended bleach to them initially, but have not heard from them since. I eat a lot of protein and fat, like most DSers. I use OneDrop and PooPourri as well as Devrom to keep things down to a tolerable smell. I like the X-O recommendation, may have to get that for home use.

I have discovered Pure Citrus Orange freshener thanks to my sister...It really is potent! I also spray the toilet down with tilex at home.... deems to solve the matter.
