Thanks for your help Shawn You need dry formulations. Get them from vitalady.com. A, E, K, and D all have to be specific dry formulations. Get them from vitalady. Read the vitamins board here already - it is full of information that you will find useful.

Thank you, I did read the board and remembered that it should be in dry form but the guy at GNC told me there is no such thing so I left. I was hoping to buy some local but will have to order the A and E from Vitalady. The D3 I found at Walgreens. Thanks again for the info Shawn

My D3 is Nature Made. It says it has Cholecalciferol 2000IU. I also take Equates Calcium citrate +D3. Calcium is 630 mg and D3 is 500 IU per 2 pills that I take twice a day. My vitamin D lab came back on the high end but since the sun never shines up here in MN, that is probably good. I will order the A,E and K from Vitalady . That guy at GNC had me second guessing myself! Thanks again Shawn

Get the 50K IU. Also, take that calcium citrate 3 times a day, not twice a day.

The vitamin lists are all here on the Vitamin board: weightlosssurgery.proboards.com/board/49/vitaminsYour D3 bottle should look like this: You don't count any vitamin that is listed in a multi or as an added ingredient in another vitamin. The extra D in your calcium, iron in your multi, etc., none of those count towards your daily requirement.

I have read the board and ten million other articles in the last 2 years, so much info that it is hard to decipher what is what. What am I missing? I'm Not sure about doses that's f sure. I Came here because I knew my surgeon is a great surgeon but doesn't have a clue about vitamins. I will read some more and learn everything I because I don't want to be one of those that I read about on here. Thanks again for sharing your vast knowledge Shawn

I take vitamins 4 times a day. I don't stress if it's not at exactly the same time every day. Morning, Bedtime, and two during the day. But you do what you gotta do.

I don't think the alarm would work for me, I wor at night 3 nights a week and I'm sure there will be some adjusting but I remembered my insulin so this will be about the same but no poke required ?

Shawn - eventually it will become routine. If setting an alarm will help you, then do it. I'm almost 12 years post-op and I take vitamins 3 times a day. I sort my vitamins two weeks at a time. I have little containers that will hold either AM/Noon/PM vitamins and I always have spares in my bag. If nothing else, I'll swallow some calcium, D, K, and devrom (those are my must-haves). Like NYB said, I don't stress about it. The BioTech D3 that you get from Vitalady is the best. It comes in 50K unit pills. You can't find that anywhere except online (at least I've never found them). You can also get it on Amazon.

Your vitamin doses just need to be taken at least 2 hours apart. Otherwise when you take them is entirely up to you.

Thanks for all the good tips! Once I get organized, it will be a lot easier I'm sure. I'm not one to get to stressed about things like this. Good thing this forum is here because my surgeon had me taking Tums and a flinstone vitamin twice a day. Thanks again for everyone's help. Shawn

umm what kind of dr tells an adult to take a flintstone, serious? anyone with a MD at the end of their name should know that info. and a malabsorption patient? that is absurd, your surgeon who chopped you up, bypassed about 40% of your small bowel doesn't know the importance of proper supplementation? we are not talking about splitting hairs like one reference says 1500mg of calcium and another says 2000mg of calcium, you are saying a flintstone-for pete's sake. but unfortunetly you are not alone. Surgeons need to think, not just cut. this is a major reason the DS has a bad wrap, drs giving out stupid information, within a year or less you would be in trouble. For my ADEKs I use BioTech Pharmacal, see below, good quality. Yes there is a lot of info, but if you are taking 2,000IU of Vit D3 you will most likely become deficient, also the D3 that is in with calcium is not in the absorbable form us DSer can take so ignore that. I have 2 different types of 7 day pill organizers, one that the individual days pop out and the others don't. I take pills 6-7xs a day. you can use vitalady as a starting point, but once you get going, adjust your vit/min based on your individual lab work.
K1-1000 Vitamin K-1 100 caps by BioTech Pharmacal A-25 100 caps by BioTech Pharmacal D3-50 Cholecalciferol 50,000 IU 100 caps by BioTech Pharmacal E-400 100 caps by BioTech Pharmacal

Simba you mentioned a while back that there is a DS surgeon you do trust about postop nutrition advice. I've asked you a few times who it is....it would be great for the community to know, not sure why you wouldn't share that helpful info.

Simba, 15 years of being a RN, you would be surprised what doctors say to patients. I knew enough not to believe that would be enough vitamins to get by with but I had no idea that I would have to take such high doses. I have to admit vitamins is not my strong point in nursing but you can bet it will be. I'm ordering a 90 day supply from Vitalady and will shop around from there when they redraw my labs next month. Thanks again Shawn

Thanks again Shawn Great news. Vitalady is a great source of information and resources. You can get some comparable vitamins by shopping around. I've found that I order from Vitalady every 3-4 months. I really like her Cal Citrate (I just seem to absorb it better than the OTC calciums out there). Some of her vitamins are from BioTech - A, D, K at the least, and I'm sure others. I was never a vitamin taker before my surgery. Once you get into a habit, things will start to get easier (like everything else). Definitely find an organizer that works for you. I think I tried 2 or 3 before I found what worked best for me. Several years ago when I remodeled my kitchen, I made sure that I had at least two shelves in a cabinet devoted for my vitamins

I would do biotech on the A and pretty much any veggie cap for the E although I buy my E from vitalady. The A I shop around for since it is all Biotech in the end.

I am not sure if you found vitamin a i buy mine at the vitamin shoppe it is called SolaRay dry a 25,000 iu if you need a picture of it let me know please That is not a good source of dry A. It contains 15,000 IU Beta Carotene and 10,000 IU Retinyl Palmitate (A) Vitalady's contains 25,000 IUs of A. And Vitalady's is cheaper.

The brand is Bio Tech. You are not likely to find it in any store. Vitalady and I believe Amazon carries it.
