To do the colonoscopy I had to drink 1 gallon of GoLytely if you are familiar with that. Take 6 laxatives. And after all of that only about a quart came out but I have gained another 5 pounds. I am up to 150. Makes no sense to me I am back on the diet but I can't figure out what is going on. I haven't even had Thanksgiving dinner. Well don't look a gift horse in the mouth right? Happy Thanksgiving to all.

It sounds as though you are retaining some of that water/liquid.
I hope you ate well and enjoyed your Thanksgiving.

i have had many colonoscopies in the last 10+ years, pre and post DS as a DSer with our "short gut" you dont need that much to clean you out to get a good colonoscopy. the next colonoscopy you need speak with the surgeon before and explain your anatomy. I usually only have to take about 50% dose as I had to take pre DS.

I told them about it several times before but the GoLytely is the only thing I retained and it took about 3 days for it to work itself out. They thought I might be in heart failure because of my bad heart. I didn't know if I was going to make it or not. Today it the first day I have been able to actually eat. My stomach swelled up, my breathing was labored my BP after plummeting jumped way up for 3 days.I went to the VA ER and waited 3 hours and only saw a nurse. Was going to go to the ER at the hospital that I had my heart surgery at tody but I felt almost completely normal. I am going to see my cardiologist and see if everything with my heart is still normal, that is normal for me. Nothing about the way my heart functions is normal but I am actually able to eat and take my protein today.

I do not know your medical history and I am not sure what you mean by "the GoLytely is the only thing I retained and it took about 3 days for it to work itself out" again as a DSer with a short gut where we have about 1/2 of our small bowel bypassed you dont need the whole amount of bowel prep, it is for a normal length bowel, and you should not consume that quantity. It is not at all surprising to me that someone with a DS and with "heart issues" dont know what you mean by that, would have issues with the volume of GoLYTELY you ingested. That volume has the potential of changing electrolytes in your blood, interfering with normal heart function, I am sure you had those great palpitations and/or abnormal heartbeats, that scare the crap out of you. I am sure if you had your lytes tested (Na, K, Cl, CO2) then they would be abnormal, since you essentially were crapping your salts into the toilet. So essentially you took about 100% more GoLYTELY than you should have, not surprising the events that followed. You should question your medical professionals about that.
