So I start a new job Monday , or rather training . I'm guessing I'll be piled in with 200 other people or at least a crowded room. If I wasn't anxious enough the recruiter who hired me ( it's a temp job) says if you're even a minute late an email is sent and training can't be made up. Sounds like the usual stuff but my problem is poop. Mornings are horrendous for me which is why I signed up for 3-11 so I could avoid running to the bathroom but now they say it might be 8-5 for training. At first I thought great ! I'll actually get to see my dh ( he works 7-7 so the other schedule leaves us not seeing each other). But then I remembered my poop situation. For awhile it was almost normal. Wake up poop maybe a tiny one in the after noon, the end. But the past 2 days it's diarrhea city ! I can't have this on a new job. I don't want to get fired because I really need the money for vites and want a job. I can't exactly excuse myself in the middle of training. I'm in my second week of a 30 day flagyl regimen so the only thing I can think of is changing food to constipate myself since Imodium doesn't always work and it has to come out sometime so not good for the long run. I've been to my surgeon who suggested flagyl or being tested for chrons/ibs and doesn't see this latest revision (new cc due to previous dead one from obstruction) as the problem. But I think it is. Ever since I got back, it's diarrhea or poop urgency city. Even with low fat. So is the best bet just to do a shake cleanse? I hate the thought of a liquid diet , makes me hungry just thinking about it. Also no dairy no gluten ( no coffee ) no white. And low fat. If someone has a magic wand I could use one about now! Otherwise, open to suggestions.

I'm waving my wand and hoping it works magic for you! Unfortunately, I don't know enough about this just yet but I'm really hoping everything works smoothly and this is something that doesn't cause a problem when you actually start. I believe it's illegal to discipline an employee for running to a bathroom, if that helps.

Even people without a DS have times in their life of bathroom urgency. I think stressing and worrying about it could make it worse! If it were me and this were my morning routine without fail, I would set my alarm a full hour or two earlier that day and begin my routine, shower, eat, etc. allowing plenty of time for my bowels to "do their thing" before heading out the door that day. If it's just a one day training thing, don't worry about it. What will be will be. I seriously doubt someone will fire you because of a trip to the bathroom. Everyone has to go. Again, start your day EXTRA early. It won't hurt you for one day to be way ahead of the game.

I have a harder time in the morning as well, and what I've done is what Melinda suggested, get my day started earlier. Is your training only one day then? You can manage the day; and you just have to do some trial/error with food intake. We can't always control it completely of course; but hopefully you have a better sense of what you tolerate, and what might make you more gas/poop prone. I definitely understand the anxiety you have, since you haven't worked much, have much experience, so this is all newer to you. It was smart to pick a later shift, but you can get around mornings by getting up a little earlier, it really does help.

I agree with the getting up earlier. What I'm wanting to know is do you have diarrhea all the time? If so please get it checked by a gastro doc. I found after six months of the runs I had collagenous colitis. It's terrible stuff and I want to encourage you to have it checked. I'm now on daily medication and I feel pretty normal.
I wish you the best with the new job and I'm sure if you need to get up and go poop during the training, you can do that...after all we are only human. Also, stop fretting that will make it worse. Been there done that...it just doesn't help.

I'm standing with the getting up extra early consensus. You've been through too much to go messing around with your diet. And everyone has to go to the bathroom, as Shawn pointed out. I'm glad you have this opportunity! Training won't last forever. Best of luck!

Yup. Get up earlier and wake up your body. And make sure you eat a really good DS diet during your training. No cheating. Clean eating AND taking all your vites, especially that calcium, will help you.

I had a steak salad and burger with lettuce wrap tonight instead of shakes in case liquids make it worse. Training is 2 weeks. So far so good. Intestinal cramps were so bad earlier Tylenol didn't help. Not sure what I ate.

I feel for you truly.
I have experienced both poop and gas issues in the workplace. I have even had people complain about my gas in the hall because I couldn't make it from my cubical to the bathroom on time.
Here are some suggestions:
Wake up super early and get your pooping done. Maybe start a new exercise habit in the morning. Exercise helps me "shake it down".
Set expectations with the trainer and or manager. Advise them simply that you have a medical condition that may cause you to use the restroom frequently. (Under the Americans with Disabilities Act, employers are required to make reasonable work place accommodations like this. )
Get to training 20 mins early minimum. The trainer will see you are there so even if you have restroom urgency at 8am, you will be counted as present.
Food suggestion- constipate yourself. If you know what does it for you, do that. For me, I have more solid stool when I avoid eating all processed foods and wheat. I would stick to meat, salads, fruit, yogurt, grilled veggies baked potatoes and the like. I would run away from any bread, crust, cracker, cookie or pre-made food staples.
Drink Decoy - always carry a massive bottle of water with you. People will know you for drinking so much healthy water and never question why you are in the restroom all of the time.
Relax. It is reasonable for a person to need to use the restroom - even a lot.

What everyone else said about getting up earlier for a couple of weeks. I had a steak salad and burger with lettuce wrap tonight instead of shakes in case liquids make it worse. Training is 2 weeks. So far so good. Intestinal cramps were so bad earlier Tylenol didn't help. Not sure what I ate. This is a major red flag to me. Do you eat lots of salads and lettuce? I know for me that is one of my trigger foods that cause major gas, bloating, and diarrhea. Were the cramps before or after you ate your salad and lettuce wrap? I have major issues with leafy greens - lettuce and spinach in particular. My body simply can't break them down. I think others have mentioned it too. Some have no issues. That's the DS.

All good advice...EXCEPT...Songbird, I caution you against deliberately constipating yourself due to your history of bowel obstruction and necrotic bowel. Again, do not mess with your diet. You're not even 6 months out from your surgery to repair your bowel, and you are still experiencing issues.
I'm with you on the spinach thing. I can't handle it at all!

Ah, you know songbird, things like lettuce, spinach can definitely be the devil! II love spinach, raw/cooked, main dish, in a dish. Now I have to eat it very sparingly, because it kills me. I get gas/diahrrea from white flour and other good carbs. Part of the many 'bag of tricks' we have to sort out is which foods set us off, and sometimes, unfortunately, they happen to be things we like and/or are good for us. Maybe post some more of what you are actually eating, so we can help you identify other potential culprits while you make the adjustment into being in the work place. And wishing you lots of good luck in the new gig, too! Temporary, training, all good, the more experience you gain, the better!

Yeah it's just weird because it can eat so much now. Doc wants me to gain 15 lbs so I was prob overdoing it before on the carbs. I've also been advised not to exercise as it might make me lose more weight. ( I was doing things like turbofire, p90x3, etc before ).
This morning bathroom trip seemed normL but the second round was loose. Not quite the pure liquid but just loose. Here's what I had yesterday : - 2 protein shakes ( one with coffee crystals and a tsp heavy cream with my anti dairy pill) - double cheese burger on a single layer lettuce wrap with bacon and mayo ( took another anti dairy) -Cesar salad steak with tritip ( tossed the croutons , ate the tritip, didn't finish all lettuce) Got behind on fluids and took flagyl at bedtime with probiotic #2 (primal defense ultra)

That's what I tried but with the bathroom issues I'm not sure what to do . I'm sure I had less than 100 g of fat yesterday and ended up with oily stools . Before the revision I remember doing 200 with no issues. Should I cut back on the probiotics? Could that be a cause? I know the solution is probably staring at me in the face but I'm not seeing it yet. Trial and error again I suppose.

I looked it up on mfp. Steak didn't have the fat tracked for some reason but here it is:
151g protein 54g carb 84g fat+ whatever was in the steak
Should I just try to aim for low fat to avoid the oily stool like. 50g? Confused on how it happened unless it's from whatever went on the day before

You had a lettuce wrap for lunch and a salad for dinner. I can't even enjoy a side salad with my steak/baked potato dinner. I am in and out of the bathroom all morning. And I know its the lettuce, because it happens every time and I can see it!
A first semi solid bowel movement and a second looser one is pretty normal for me. I am pretty good most of the day.
If you are going to start adding complex carbs, start slowly and see how it effects you. Particularly during your weeks of training. Good luck!

I really liked it! First medical field job. Even though it's temp it will be great exp for me. It's actually working for covered ca.
On a side note. How many days of not pooping should I go before taking a laxative ? Or should I just wait for the weekend and get through training? It doesn't hurt ; it's just not happening cuz of the sleep thing

Does it get everything out at once quickly? Pretty much. That is the point. If I have an early morning appointment, I use an enema. That way I have control over when I poop and I get it out before I leave the house. You can just buy an enema kit and use warm water while you're sitting on the toilet. You'll get the hang of it, you might have to do it twice to get it all out. It's just warm water, and it doesn't go very high up. There's really no reason not to do it for your circumstances.
