Just a quick question. How much fat should we try to eat each day? I'm close to 18 months out. Nearing that loss window. I log everything into MFP and was just curious about fat. I'm a big bacon/sausage/cheese eater. It took awhile but I have finally wrapped my brain around the whole don't count calories thing. I average about 120 grams of protein a day and 40-50 grams of carbs. I have gone over on the carbs a few times but for the most part keep it down.
I've lost 235lbs since my revision, down to about 170-173. I've been at this weight about a month. Not sure I'll ever make 145 as my BMI states but I'm happy with were I am, just want to make sure I stay here!

Congratulations on your weight loss.
I would say eat as much as you like...your BMs will tell you when you have had enough. I think we absorb about 20% of the fat, but I'm not completely sure. So I say go for it. See what happens. If you have had too much you will get the runs.

Hello. At 18 months I would suggest trying to get your protein up to an average of 150 grams a day. Male ptrotein needs may be greater than female but o average closer to 250 grams a day and I am just shy of 14 months out.

Ok, I do think it could be more. I think I can add s shake or two a day to help increase it. My last labs showed everything at acceptable levels but it was on the low end. I know it would be best to be higher.

Have as much fat as you'd like. It won't add weight or slow your weight loss.
The loss window lasts 24 months, not 18. But, expect it to go VERY slowly as you near the end.
I didn't reach a normal weight until my 24th month and I lost a bit more after that.

Great job I wish I did that well on carbs.
I just can't ever wrap my head around a "goal" for fat. I just changed my diet to eliminate low fat and let the fat take care of itself. I might sing a different tune if I was constipated but until I see the need to actively increase my fat consumption I think it is one less thing to worry about.
My Surgeon also told me 24 months for a window. I just hit 18 months and it does get slower and harder, for me.

Thanks for the advice. I guess I went through so much in the beginning I want to make sure I'm doing things right to maintain. I'm glad to hear the 24 month window! I'm really happy with where I am but any more loss would be icing on the cake. The revision was the best thing I could have done. It was rough the first 9 months but I'm so much better now. I guess if I lost 20 lbs I would be at a normal BMI. I don't post much but I read here often and get valuable info. It's been a Blessing to me.

Oh and it took me awhile to get over calorie counting! When I look at MFP it tells me my fat is too high.. I'm sure due to all the bacon, sausage, and cheese I eat. I didn't think about it much at first but then thought it would be good to ask all of you.

If your like the majority of us, Fat consumption can be as much as you can comfortably handle. Your stool could help dictate what that level is. Me, personally, I don't worry about fat consumption. My stools vary in consistency daily, from episode to episode. Fat seems to have little effect besides if my stool floats, or sinks...

Fat seems to have little effect besides if my stool floats, or sinks... Mine always floats. I know I am having too much fat when the little islands stubbornly refuse to be flushed down. I have never had an oil slick - I assume it is something like an oily shart, but I do occasionally have very urgent and multiple bowel movements. My skin goes dry very quickly if I do not get enough fat. I always drink loads of water, so I can tell by my skin when I need to increase the fat. Occasionally I have a 'firm' day, and then I lay the butter on extra thick. I once ordered a slice of toast and six pats of butter. Normally I eat lots of cheese (about 100g per day), I always choose the fattier cut of meat and eat the skin off the chicken. I have one slice of heavily buttered toast every morning. I use one cup of heavy cream in my drinks through the day. I only keep a mental note of my protein totals, for the rest I count nothing. It works for me.

I am having slicks pretry frequently mow and my skin has been very dry since the ds. My GI thinks I may not be absobring as much fat as needed so that could be causing issues. He wants to test a stool sample and is contemplating creon.

I'm pretty consistent with logging in all my food/water on MFP. I looked over the last 4 weeks and it averages out to about 80 to 100 grams a day. There were of course a few higher and a few lower days. I guess that's actually not high at all, more each day wouldn't hurt. I can say like today I ate a lot of bacon and sausage as I was on the go and packed snacks for the day. I had 165 total for today.
