Hello all So my center has no idea what I should expect with weight loss if any at all. What do you guys think with going from RNY to sleeve? It was going well sw 267 and Thursday I was 247 which was awesome. Today however 252. I'm getting in 2350ml and 84gr protein I'm 3.5 wks out.
See this surgery was extremely hard on my 3 yr old and we have been having issues with him, and with the leak that scared the shit out of me. Now I'm thinking about waiting a yr for the DS.
I should change my user name to mixed bag of emotions lol.

The one thing I know about the DS is the malabsorption...that part is what I need to help me maintain my weight. Now I haven't done that so well, but most do. I am going to vote for you to have the complete DS...when you do it is up to you.
I would think there are good arguments on both sides for waiting or not waiting. I say go ahead and do it now...the combination of a smaller stomach and the rearranged gut makes a dynamite combination for weight loss.
Your stomach is going to stretch...wait and see, I swear it will and then where will you be? Think it over and I bet you will agree to have it done sooner rather than later.
Glad you are home and feeling better. Leaks are no fun. Don't let your family make the decision for you...this is all about you and your body and your health.

I am going to be brutally honest with this post. My stomach has stretched significantly in 11 months. Frankly it worries me a bit at how much I can now eat and that I am always hungry. Without doubt in my mind I know that without the switch I would gain back a significant amount, if not all my weight.
Regarding stomach size...I eat 5 eggs with a half cup of cheese and 8 slices of bacon every morning for breakfast and then have 2 MacDonald sausage burritos (tear away all the excess tortilla so get may half of tortilla per burrito) and a hash brown 1 hour later when I get to work.

Dawn, this is one of the reasons why I think doing the DS in two stages is a mistake. At 3.5 weeks out, you are still feeling pretty raw, and the last thing you want to do is have more surgery. I get it.
There is a high degree of probability that you will see regain without the second stage of the DS. You are already struggling with it. The stomach does stretch back out, and when it does, it may be just like it's always been for you -- a lifelong battle with weight. Granted, the small stomach is partially responsible for the EWL. However, it's the malabsorption component of the surgery that helps to keep the weight off. This is the part that resets our metabolism and provides us with a long term tool.
Look at how many people are revising to the DS! If you wait a year for the second phase, your weight loss is only going to take longer because your stomach will not be nearly as small anymore.

Hi Dawn (or should I say mixed bag of emotions!)
You are human, just like the rest of us. Hang in there, it WILL get better. You had quite a scare but are good now! I'm too new to give opinion, but honestly, I'm feeling good about my DS now and I hadn't been before. It just takes time.
Illinids2, I can't believe how great you look and the weight you've lost, way to go!!!

Some people are very successful with the VSG. Mostly those whose issues are only portion control and not a messed up metabolism from years of dieting. If that describes you, you should be alright.
No doubt you'll lose weight with the sleeve, but what if it is just enough so that you are only obese, not normal weight? A year from now, you would not qualify for bariatric surgery if you are not still morbidly obese.
It is your decision, but I would get the second part as soon as possible.
