Surgery is done but I'm having the worst time ever with the nurses I spent 2 1/2 days in ICU and the first day and a half no one would listen to me on how I felt or what I needed. Thank god for Liz who finally came on and helped me. All I wanted to do was sit on the regular toilet and the other nurse wouldn't let me and said she was gonna put the cath back in. I have back surgery and nerve damage and I kept telling her it hurts to sit on here and she'd say this is what you have so make it work. Seriously? I have a morphine pump and ones telling me I'll only get medicine every hour another every 6 minutes. I keep trying to get up and walk but it takes to long to disconnect me they only let me walk in a Circe and put me back in bed. They said once I came to the 4th floor id lose all these wires and monitors and instead they have me on even more and the nurse says well they lied to you. It takes 20 minutes just to get someone in the room to go pee and then unhook everything. The morphines giving me a headache and I'm very hot and sweaty so my skin is irritating me and it doesn't seem a concern at all for them. I just want to go home so frustrated

Wow that is really shitty of them. Could you request Demerol with the Dr instead of morphine? I have the same issue with morphine. I really hope they get there asses in gear and start treating you better soon. I'm thinking of you.

I've never met so many people not listen to what you're trying to tell them and just shut you out. They literally deny you and then walk out never to reappear. I've been here alone cause my husband has to take care of our son and we live an hour and a half away but my God how I wish he was here. To get a wash cloth is a huge ordeal. And I could swear Dr.Greenbaum told me yesterday he wants me eating the liquids and protein and I have yet to get anything but Ice chips. When I ask why I'm told "I don't know" I asked why I have the feeding tube in and no one has a clue and I even had to tell them it needs to be irrigated and then the one nurse needed to get someone to do it cause she's never seen it before. I thought all they did was bariatric on this floor? I had 3 nurses last night all young girls at various stages of pregnancy so them helping you out is totally out of the question. My husband called the bariatric coordinator last night but I never heard from her. Both my arms hurt so much from the PICC line. I just never imagined is be going through this. They said all the nurses are so kind and knowledgable but so far I've only had one. Those are my poor two arms that make it so much harder to move. I feel like I've made a mistake Attachments:

So sorry for the rough time you are having. Demabd, and I do mean demand, a patient advocate immediately and tell that person exactly what you/want expect. They can help greatly.
Good luck and I promise it gets better even if it sucks right now.

I have never in my 30 year nursing career seen PICC line sites like that! I'm sorry this is so miserable for you. It's perfectly within your rights to notify hospital administration re: your (lack of) care. Better days are ahead for you!

I agree. My son has been battling cancer and has been on chemo for two years. He's been beaten and bruised, and had multiple ports, lines, and PICC's. He's been beaten up about as bad as it gets, and I've never seen anything close to that.
Ask for a patient advocate, or a nurse manager.
You've had a rough go. A bit of buyers remorse is typical early out. My best advice is to try to separate some of these bad experiences from the overall experience These next few weeks are rough for most people. I hope things smooth out for you and go well from here on out.

Thank you everyone. Nursing has gotten better since I switched floors. I did have one excellent nurse in ICU that helped me and today the nurses on the 4th floor are a lot better. It was my pain and that no one would listen to me that got me so upset. I was really surprised at the attitude and just not give a shit attitude I ran into. All I heard is how wonderful the nurses are and then it was like ha??? I'm getting stronger each day. Drinking has been fine. Pain is getting a little better. So I'm happy for the most part. It is a little scary to wake up and no what's done is done but long term I really felt this was the best thing. Thank you again for all the support
