After 8 days of optifast my surgeons office called today and rescheduled my surgery. It was suppose to be next Friday and now is the 14th instead. So upsetting.

I'm sorry Dawn! And of course, comes at a time where you're already in full-throttle pre-op panic mode. I saw your other thread too, and yes, it's normal to be scared, second guess, be worried about your family. But the health issues and your mortality being obese is a tremendous danger. This isn't a vanity decision, you are doing it to be healthy, so you can be there with your family. It's really hard to go through this twice, none of us ever imagine that will happen, it was hard enough the first time. It was hard on me too and I'm single no depdendents. I had huge anxiety, fear of failure, emotionally overwhelmed, so don't beat yourself up. For now, just focus on getting through the Optifast/liquid pre-op diet, do the best you can, it will be training for your immediate post-op time, you'll probably lose a few pounds and get a head start. HANG in there, your surgery will be here before you know it.

I'm sorry that happened. I would be upset, too. When I had my surgery my weight and everything surgery related was such a focus for me, it was hard to think of anything else. I'm sure you also have time off for you or your caregiver, and logistical things to work around, too.
In the grand scheme of things I think you will look back some day in the future and think it didn't matter much. Since you cant do a thing to change what happened, I would just take the extra time to be extra ready for surgery, get a head start on the weight loss. Your big day will be here before you know it.

I am so sorry for your disappointment and inconvenience. The time will fly by. Really. Those two weeks will feel like the blink of an eye. If he expects you to do Optifast again, I hope he is paying for it. Optifast is unnecessary pain and suffering as it is. You shouldn't have to pay for it twice because HE changed the date.

That stinks, but understand that things happen for a reason. I also agree with Goodkel that they pay for the Optifast because it was them who rescheduled you.

Believe me, I could go on and ON about the 'need' for liquid diets or any diet before surgery. I was glad my surgeon's response to that was, "if you could do that, you wouldn't need me". So do know I empathize because it really does suck. But at this point forward, it's just about doing whatever it's going to take to make this process work. Our surgeons are so different. If you can look at the liquids process as 'training' for surgery, a health 'cleanse' instead of dieting, that might help, as in, getting in the best shape possible for major surgery. Focus on the potential benefits (already on liquids to ease into post-op, some weight loss) The time will really go by faster than you think and we're here for you when you're ready to pull your hair out!

As explained to me the clear liquid diet for 5 days that my surgeon had us do was for one reason only, to shrink the liver and make it more malleable so there was more room to operate without damaging the liver.

See I've really had to fight to get this surgery. It has been 2 years of appointments. The center is 1.5 hrs one way away and some months I had 2 or more appointments. To finally make head way was very exciting. It just makes me think that come next month I will get another phone call.

Your fight to have the surgery sounds so much like mine. I fought for years. And I had to travel a couple of hours and go to lots of appointments. In the end I know I would have been crushed if I had gotten such a phone call, Dawn.
Please don't let this delay throw you off your game. Do everything you can to keep yourself positive and ready. Make up your mind. You will get through this.

You know, there's pretty much no way this surgery won't be the center of your universe until you actually have it. It's pretty difficult to think of anything else. I remember well the fear of it 'not happening' and I didn't go through what you have! HANG in there, you will have it, I really believe this is your time. You've worked hard for this, a good game plan, and if you don't start swinging from the chandelier from the liquid diet, you're doing great. Stay as busy as you can, distract in good ways however you can.

Thank you Monica, I'm glad you understand too what a pain in the butt they put us through lol. I find it horrible that obesity is considered a disease just like cancer. Yet can you imagine the public out cry if a cancer patient would need to go through the hoops we do.

You need to window shop for the slinky new dress you'll need for New Years Eve. You need to research and plan all the things you've wanted to do, but were stopped by your weight. Amusement park rides, white water rafting, tango lessons, 4 inch high heels, running a marathon, trapeze lessons. And you'll have a completely new wardrobe by next summer. You should start window shopping now for the kind of cute outfits you'll be needing. Right now you are standing in a seemingly endless long line at a roller coaster. You can see the loading area, but you seem far from it. Will this never end? Suddenly you are ushered into a car and here we go:

Goodkel-you're awesome!
