I am very early in the revision research process and have been doing a great deal of reading & shuffling through the various posts to this forum. I have also learned alot in the process with far, far more to learn as I go along. I had lap-rny in 2002. I did great until the past 2-3 years whereby almost all of my weight has returned. I was 297 lbs pre-surgery, lost down to 127 and am now hovering at 257. I was also diagnosed with bipolar last year and the various medications they have me on have definitely accelerated the weight gain. I have started watching my carbs and doing treadmill walking several times a week. I can say that as before, the heavier I am the more painful my arthritis has become. Adding 12 years on top of that and it's become a severe, debilitating problem for me. I'm reviewing the list provided for RNY-DS Revision Surgeons. I live in Alabama and will have to do a great deal of research on both the surgeon and which one(s) will work with my insurance [BCBS of Alabama/PPO]. As I said, I'm just beginning but if anyone has some "do this before you do that" suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks so much!!

Hi Shazel, and welcome! I'm 53 years old, and had my RNY revised to the DS in December 2011. I live in southern California very close to one of the best surgeons for this procedure. I know it's a lot to look into, especially when you have to travel. We have another new member who just posted as well who is looking into this revision too: weightlosssurgery.proboards.com/thread/9072/waiting-revision-bypass-dsI have posted a blog of my experience on the My Story board, here: weightlosssurgery.proboards.com/thread/9004/girlrockers-journeyI had my RNY in 2002, I was a 'lightweight' then at 280 at surgery time, my highest weight was 315. I had complications, a second surgery, infection; lost down to about 195, a little lower after removal of my panni and hernia repair, but basically couldn't stay under 200 lbs no matter what I did and I had really done everything by the book, had already been living a protein focused/moderate carb lifestyle, exercised regularly; eventually went back up to 240. I really empathize with what you're going through. In terns of prioritizing, what to ask, are you talking about in reference to surgery approval? How to choose a surgeon? Tell us more so we can better help you. Keep reading, posting, asking questions; and if you ever want more one on one support, feel free to write me here or email me.
