I'm just cyber-sensing a lot of worry….just trying to get Amy to slow down and not worry so much.

Hi Amy, I made a goal for myself that as soon as I was taking all of my vitamins that I would let myself have coffee again. I love coffee so much that this worked as a really great incentive to stop dragging my feet and just do it! I have noticed that when I drink a lot of coffee on any given day I get less protein in because the half & half keeps me full for a while. I should probably try some of the protein coffee recipes but that just sounds so gross to me! I love your reward system Heather!! Great idea!

Heather love it!! I'm so stealing this! I actually was talking to my doc about adding some bites in tomorrow. I think I'm going to do my under the tounge B and iron tomorrow. Have a ways to go to get that coffee Doc actually said that I should never drink coffee again. What a sad life that would be I'm only guilty of being excited. I'm really trying to do everything correct. Filtering the info I get from docs through here since we all know that story is so different.

I'm loving that you had your surgery 2 days before mine because just as you post all these questions, they become issues for me too. You're asking all the questions for me!

That's awesome Lisa! I feel really stupid asking some of them but that doesn't stop me! I couldn't waste this wonderful resource. We are so lucky to have all these vets. I would have been so lost without them How are you doing? Do we seem to be progressing the same? Do you have any pain in your tummy stil? That's the only place I still hurt. And I CAN NOT wait for this to heal so I can start my walks.

Vanilla and chocolate protein both go well with coffee or you can use Unjury unflavored. You mix up the protein well with your cream, half and half, whatever first then pour the coffee into that. Add your favorite sweetener to taste and TA-DA! Easy peasy.

Before surgery I lived on iced coffees in the afternoon into the eve. I would fill the cup with ice then add about two ounces of whatever creamer I was using, then fill the cup with coffee leaving about an inch at the top to add almond milk. I figure when I can have coffee again I am going to replace the almond milk with vanilla EAS protein shake. That should give me 8 grams of protein per coffee. I used to have 2-3 a day easy.

That is why I ask even the stupid questions here. I see DS ers drinking 4-5 cups a day. Not to say that's recommended. But they are not on deaths door.

You could do this now with decaf.

Its only the caffeine that the doc is worried about. It is a diuretic. and if your not able to get the 64oz in, the fear is that you will piss out more liquid than your taking in, leading to a dehydrated state over time. Like comparing geting only 20oz a day in and being dehydrated in a couple days, more like getting 40oz in, and creeping into a dehydrated state without you really realizing your getting dehydrated.

Also it's really acidic, so it can be tough on a healing gut.

The acid can be mostly neutralized via cream and/or half and half.

Fluid is excellent . I drinking 3 + 24oz bottles of smart waters a day. Plus a tea or hot cocoa in the eve and a gatoraid if I get bored of the water. Also 2 EAS protein shakes.

Wow, Amy, you're doing great!
I always thought Miralax would be like dynamite, but ended up being more of a dud.
Please do not ever think your questions are stupid! I'm almost a year and still worry about the most simplest of things, that our wonderful vets are always happy to help me with.

watch the sugars in the prune juice.. May have explosive properties....
at your stage, that would be a thing I try at home, alone.....
Could always try the krispy cream effect...

Thanks meq!!
I ended up with 100%grape juice that I will take a few drinks of in a bit. I am trying the refried beans in a bit. Will see if that makes anything move. If not I will have a few drinks of the grape juice and pray for something to happen.

Prune juice would work better than grape juice. Grape juice is almost pure sugar…Prune juice is full of fiber.

God love ya Amy, you are the most adorable thing I love NYB phrase 'cyber sense of worrying'. At times we are like mama bears, we always worry! and we are especially protective of newbies. I am going to forever be referring your screenname for future pre-ops newbies to search and read for information. I am grinning with you all the way and will continue to fuss and tell you to try to slow down sometimes you're doing great.
