I just wanted to say here that from the first sip of water I took after my band to DS revision, I could tell that damn thing was out of me! I can swallow with no hesitation. Granted, I can only take a few bites or sips, but that's what I signed up for!! What a relief!! I have been puking for 7 years- now I'm going to be (relatively) free of that nonsense!!! HOORAY!!! If your band is bothering you and it is not working, GET IT OUT! Yeah!

YAY! I have read so many instances of the damage that the band can do, that we do not support that surgery on this board. Any of the rare few successes are welcome, of course. But there are armfuls of data here, not to mention the posts from our members who have had revisions, enough to warn away any rational pre-op. Unlike with your band, eating and drinking will continue to get easier as time goes by. I am SO happy for you that you had it taken out and are doing so well!

Here here!!!!!! You know my thoughts on the choke chain....WHAT A MISERABLE LIFE I HAD living with it.
:shudder:
So glad you are with me in this one. That device should absolutely be banned from being surgically placed in a human of any size. It's unbelievable and sad that there are virgin WLS patients still opting for the band. What's worse is that there are still surgeons promoting it. It disgusts me to no end.
Glad you're happy and feeling better every day!

Couldn't agree with all of you more ... I also got ride of my band when I was switched and soooooo thankful it's no longer choking me. What a miserable few years I had trying to make that thing work - I advise anyone who talks to me about the band to avoid it at all costs!

I cannot believe that there are still surgeons who are putting that thing in people. I personally would not go to a surgeon who was still promoting it. And anyone who thinks it's so easily "reversible" should first of all, see my scar from the doc not being able to get it out AND should also talk to my insurance company who REFUSED for three years to take it out of me. They were so sorry my band was choking me but since it wasn't "broken," I was supposed to deal with it. I'm just so FREAKING happy I can swallow!!!!! I didn't realize how bad it was until just now!!!! I once slimed into a cup throughout the second act of Wicked in LA because there was NO WAY I was going to miss one second of that show to go puke. The band needs to be banned!!

I have had a lap band since Mar. 2010. I just found out that it "slipped" and has to be removed. Since the band "failed", Medicare and my private policy will cover the vertical sleeve that I originally wanted, but was not yet covered. I figured as long as the band must come out, I might as well have the Dr. do it at the same time. Anyone else here have a vertical gastrectomy following a band?

I knew the moment I woke up in the PACU. I didn't realize how uncomfortable the tightness was even when I wasn't eating. Thank God that torture device is out!
