I met with Dr. Greenbaum on 12/27 and I am now finalizing all the preop work. My last appointment is to follow up for the sleep study (worst experience!) and PFT with the pulmonologist. I have an appointment with Greenbaum later later this week.
I realize there is some flexibility with the common channel. So this is one question I need to ask him.

Oh those sleep studies! I had to do it twice - there was very little sleep involved! I think that was the angriest I've ever been. Good luck with yours! . Sounds like you're almost cleared though, how exciting!

Glad to hear you survived the (no/hardly any)sleep study lol. Good luck with your appointment with Greenbaum. Keep us posted on your progress. Take care and welcome to the boards!

Hi there and welcome! I am an RNY to DS revision too. You are in excellent hands with Dr. Greenbaum. I'm sure you have a lot of questions for him, and I actually wrote out a list when I went for my consults and appointments; in fact, I kept a notebook with all of my paperwork, questions so everything is one place. My surgeon really helped me understand why my RNY didn't work for me, what he needed to do to undo it, perform the DS and how it worked. He also noted that he might see things once he got in there that don't show up on all the pre-op tests, scans, xrays. For me it was a lot of scar tissues, adhesions and a difficult suturing technique for my pouch that took him 1.5 hours to undo, he said my DS was simple compared to that I was on a feeding tube for 6 weeks, which helped me a lot getting in fluids and protein shakes so I didn't fret about not eating. I had my drains too until the output got low enough and the color changed to light pink/clear from red. All pretty painless, except removing the drains, yikes, 15 seconds of yuk. He ballparked my common channel and sleeve size, he didn't want me to fixate on them because of all the problems and heartache, and I trusted him to do the sleeving, length he felt was best. Glad the sleep study has gone well. You're in a great place for support, there are some stories you can read here on this board, and please ask all the questions you need. Also, if you create a signature with all your stats it can help us get to know you better, and you will get more direct responses for you and your needs.

Thank you. Dr. Greenbaum will do a DS surgery. The appointment went well and all my pre op stuff is complete. The worst of the experience was the sleep study and I do not have sleep apnea and my PFT's were normal. I am working on dropping some weight before surgery and postponing it until late June when school is out (I teach). This way I have the summer to adjust to the new GI tract.
