Has anyone ever experienced this? I have been having some mild abdominal pain, right after eating or drinking. Not enough to alarm me, just enough to mention. My surgeon had me come right in and did a swallow study, which ruled out any obstructions or leaks, however, I have air in my remnant stomach. I am almost 2 years post RNY, with no issues up to this point. I am scheduled for an endoscopy next Friday, they suspect a possible internal hernia, or ulcers. I am not really alarmed, just wondering if anyone has ever gone through something similar?

The way it was explained to me was that if I have an internal hernia, then things can get backed up in the portion of the intestine that has slipped, and this could cause air to back up into the remnant stomach. They can't tell for sure until the endoscopy. In my opinion they are going overboard with all of the tests they have ordered (endoscopy, swallow study, blood work, ultrasound and HIDA scan), but I do appreciate their thoroughness. I am lucky this group of surgeons provides such goos follow up care.

Well, turns out it was an internal hernia that had partially obstructed. Had surgery yesterday, am going to spend the next few days in the hospital. I am so glad they figured out what it is.

Thank you. I am home from the hospital, I can finally get some rest! This should be a lesson to all- trust your body and don't wait to call your doctor! If I had waited to call this could have been a disaster!

Thank you. I went back to work yesterday and I am sore and exhausted! I may have underestimated the amount of time off I needed to recuperate...I was in bed by 8PM last night!

Take care. Recovery takes time. We tend to ignore the lap procedures... but the body was damaged and take time to fully recover.
