Hey all you experienced DSers. I am 10 days out from my RnY to DS revision and I have lost 1 lbs. before I lose my mind and need medication for paranoia is this normal? I wasn't hoping for like 10lbs or anything but 1 lb? Considering all that I am not eating...how come? Thanks all

You are probably still retaining fluids from all the IV stuff they pumped into you, combined with the trauma of major surgery (which causes temporary fluid retention). At some point that fluid will be released and the weight will start coming off. Fear not!

Thank you both. I was really worried I was going to already fail my DS. I still feel like I messed up my RnY. I know but it's my mental barrier that I can't stop thinking and to think I had already messed up...well you know.

Do yourself a huge favor and stay off the scale. I never bought a scale and still do not own one...for that very reason. I didn't want to become a slave to the stupid thing. Trust me, I know all about feeling like an RNY failure. Lived it for 10+ years. My best piece of advice is to make peace with it, bury it in the backyard, and then move forward with life. You are on a whole new court with a fresh ball and an 0-0 record.
It's only been 10 days. This weight didn't all come on overnight, but once your DS gets it's legs back underneath it...it's going to come off in a hurry. Focus not on scale numbers, but the little NSVs. Like "holy cow, I can sit in this chair with arms and not feel like the arms are digging into me" or "WTF happened, these pants fit last week and they just fell off my hips and into a puddle at my ankles." And my personal fave is "holy shit, this is what it feels like to cross my legs?!?!" Trust me, the NSVs are way more fun than the scale numbers every day of the week.

Thanks Paula you made me smile. I will push the scale deep in the closet and forget how to find it.

Hey don't worry. The day of surgery I was 227 when I left I was 250.4. Then in 3 weeks I was 211 and at the end of the 3rd week i was 220. So who knows how much water weight you had to loose before you even lost the 1 lb you thought you lost. I am 4 weeks as of the 30th and now down to 208 from surgery weight. The point im trying to make I didn't loose weight from my surgery weight till week 3 and 4. Hey as long as you dont gain any weight you should be ok. I know its hard because I was convinced I was the only person who had the DS that was not going to loose weight! It was irrational thinking but thsts me. Then I became mad at the fact I had the stupid DS almost died leaving my 2 children and IM THE ONLY ONE IN THE ENTIRE WORLD THAT DIDN'T LOOSE WEIGHT. You see how if you fester over it becomes something bigger and probably causes undue, unneeded, and unhealthy stress and thoughts?

Hey,you're brand new and there's all kinds of transition, healing going on, epecially because you're a RNY revision (me too). I understand the anxiety, emotion and fear the second time at the rodeo. Something I learned from my surgeon was to finally give myself a break, I didn't fail my RNY surgery, my surgery failed me. Our recovery can be different than virgin surgeries, and our rate of loss too. But give yourself time, look at the big picture, try to lose the diet mentality of 'x-amount of pounds per week/month'. Often there is an ebb and flow, bigger drops, a few weeks without, it all evens out in the end. You can't break your DS or screw it up, you can't eat anything but liquids right now It's a slow progression while you're healing just like it was after the RNY, liquids, soft foods, eventually reintegrating more dense foods, more variety. Still protein first, still not a good idea to drink/eat at the same time, both for the limited stomach real estate reasons. The difference will be a healthier appetite and bigger range of protein and full fat foods down the line. I couldn't ditch my scale completely, but did limit weigh ins to once a week, same day/time each week , morning nekkid before I ate anything. I also made sure I incorporated other ways to measure success, lots of full body pics, a closet full of assorted weight loss sizes that I waited to get back into, noticing things like cheek/collar bones, pants needing a belt. Measurements always a good idea too.
