I am in my pre 6 months to have my lap band switched to RnY... I am doing it primarily to help with my horrible GERD. My people who did my band initially didn't mention that having a band and GERD was absolutely incompatible. And after my 3rd visit to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack, went to see a different bariatric surgeon who advised me the band had to come out and suggested the RnY which I agree with so no bashing!! I just wanted to know what the recovery period and hospital stay time was for anyone who has had this done? Thank you! I am currently at 243lbs goal being 140. I lost only 30lbs after a year of horrific pain and gas with my lap band and the docs there telling me I was doing great and how happy they were with a 1lb weight loss in a month, despite my following the rules to a T... Unhappy is the minimal word I will use. They got their payment and they were done. I am approaching this surgery with much more optimism!! They are preparing me very well. I just would like someones comments who has had this done, bad and good. Thank you!

I'm sorry you had such a terrible time with your lap band, but not surprised. You absolutely should have been advised that lap band can (and in fact is likely) to worsen GERD, or to cause it in people who don't already have it.
I can't answer your question, but hope that getting that miserable piece of crap removed and having your RNY will work out for you.

I had RNY 8 1/2 years ago. My recovery was fairly easy. One night in the hospital on pain pump and the first night home I used pain meds. I did sleep in a recliner for 3 days, it made getting up and done easier. I had lots of energy after a couple of days then on week three (true ex to work) dealt with some exhaustion in the evenings for about 4-5 weeks. Not unbearable but tired. I also had some nausea the first few weeks, somewhat common. Hot peppermint tea was a big part if my liquid intake.
