Hi all looking for advice about protein shakes. Two weeks before my surgery I will be living on protein shakes. I have found I like the bariatric advantage meal replacement shakes but only if mixed with skim milk, with water it is less than appetizing. So I guess my question is two fold. 1) can I use the shake mix with milk or will it effect my liver enough to not let it shrink. 2) if I become lactose intolerant after my revision (RnY to DS) any one have a good suggestion of what I could use that would help the flavor other then milk? Thanks for your time and help.

You might try almond milk.

I think eating less food and subsequent weight loss is what shrinks the liver, so milk alone pre-op should not be an issue. I believe the liver shrinks because it is processing less food in general.
I completely gave up on any shake that had to be mixed with milk post op - for years! They left me too gassy and uncomfortable. I bought the ones that were juice-like and could be mixed with water. YMMV, but it is good to have alternatives. Your taste might change post op as well.
Like Maggie, I think almond milk might be a good substitute.
Hope this helps.

You might like to try the Syntrax Nectars; they have a sample pack available on their website.
