Okay, so 85 pounds lost so far, and she claims she didn't have any gastric bypass. But she DID have an undisclosed surgery in December. Who else thinks like I do? I'm thinking sleeve gastrectomy. No way did she have the DS, or she'd be trumpeting it to the masses.
Sure wish Oprah Yo-Yo Winfrey would get the DS. Could you imagine the publicity?
Yowzers.

There was something about Jennifer Hudson on another site I visit. Speculation about gastric and a recent complication that resulted in a hospital visit.

Supposedly Aretha did have the DS, but its a rumor based on her rapid weight loss and the company she keeps. Lots of her power friends are DS aficionados.
Jennifer Hudson supposedly had a band.
I don't know if either rumor is true since they're internet gossip.

So many celebrities have lost a lot of weight quickly in recent months and none own up to surgery. Jonah Hill, Micheal Moore, Tom Goodman,Drew Carey (why am I coming up with men only?) I suppose they are rich enough to hire personal trainers but wow Hill's weight came off too fast for any diet..

I heard on the news today that Aretha is getting married to her long time companion. She has been so unhealthy for so long! I hope this brings her the good health to sing for us a lot longer.

I think Drew and Jonah both had WLS of some variety. That's fine... at least they aren't pimping out Weight Watchers.

I agree, Gail! I hope all is well with the Queen.
I know the hospital she was in in Detroit. They don't do bariatric surgery there, but they do it at a sister hospital in the same system.

I wish more celebs would be up front about their WLS. Their denial only helps to perpetuate the myths that it's easy to do it with a little willpower, diet and exercise.

I think their PR and Agents have a lot to do with why they try to hide it. It's their job to worry too much about what the public might think. In reality I don't think the public cares about such things as much as the PR people think.

I think most people would respect the honesty But at the same time....it's their private business, right?

Maybe if the stars owned up to having had surgery, it wouldn't be such a 'dirty little secret' for average folks. I admire the few famous people who have admitted their surgeries. Even those who have had bounceback weight gain and still struggle.
*famous RNYer suffering from weight gain after 2 years - smacks head* "I shudda had a DS!"

I think most people would respect the honesty But at the same time....it's their private business, right? No doubt, NYB. I dont think they're obligated to tell, just wish that they wouldn't deny it, if only for the increasing the social acceptability of our choice. The perception that we took the easy way out because we didn't do it "the old fashioned" way irks me. I dont go out of my way to ever advertise that I had WLS, but I dont deny it if it comes up in conversation. But of course, everyone has the right to do what they want, celebrities and every day general public alike.

Recent celeb that I had to kind of question - Kirstie Alley. She says Dancing With the Stars. I say hmmmmmmm. But Kirstie has a commercial diet venture she's currently selling and before that, Jenny Craig. It has never been "in her best interests" to admit that anything other than whatever she's contracted to sell helped her lose weight. Jonah Hill's loss seemed so sudden he looks a lot like Gru from Dispicable Me now!
