Welcome. I only had about 80 to lose as well but my comorbidities and physical limitations, and my eating style made the DS the best fit for me. Wishing you good luck in the process.

Welcome to the LW board...you'll do fine...let us know when you get the approval.
I had 70-80 to lose according to my doctor...weighed a WHOPPING 205 when I signed in (35.2 BMI). My original goal was to see normal (that was a hair under 145). Then I wanted to get to 135. Now I am aiming for 125. I honestly was about 12 the last time I weighed less than 140 and I am 57 years old...
It's an awesome ride.

Hi Jen, I'm sleeved and in the process of trying to get hubby approval myself!! There isn't any private medical cover in the UK that covers WLS. Only very high BMIs (they said BMI 60 on a TV program I saw - but I think it can vary from region to region) can get it for free on the National Health Service.

Welcome to the board Jen and everyone!!
hi Liz, I am 57 too. Do you find you are losing at a slower rate than the younger D.S.ers? I think I am slower because of hyporthyroid , new hysterectomy and age reasons.

Hi Jen, welcome! I know how stressful the waiting for approval is, will keep fingers crossed for you. I'm 50, and the lowest I ever got with my RNY was 185 for about 5 minutes. Was impossible for me to stay under 200 lbs. Had one regain of 40 lbs, took it off. Gained it back, went up to 240. My surgery weight was 240 though I dropped 6 lbs before surgery, I'm now at 215. My surgeon says 160 for me, I would like 150 or even 140 :-) I'm just under 5'5, a curvy, muscular frame. I know my loss will be slower as a revision and not a virgin DS, and I have a super metabolically stubborn body. Looking forward to the DS taking me to my finish line, I never want to see 200 again, or be anywhere near it ever. Positive thoughts for approval!

Hi Jen and everyone! Im trying to figure out how to pay for DS as well. I have about 90lbs to lose. My goal weight is actually 180. Im 5'9 and tend to weigh more than people my same size/measurement so thats thin for me but I know how you feel about settling on an actual number for a goal...I have no idea if I can get thinner than that and not look like a walking skeleton yet I feel like people think Im not striving hard enough when I say 180 is my goal lol.
Whatever you decide to select as your goal, we will hopefully be here with you to witness you reaching it! Best of luck to you!

My fingers are crossed for you too...hang in there and remember no the first time doesn't mean no. If your insurance says it pays for WLS then keep trying...normally insurance deny you the first time...so take heart. Consider it just some of the hoops and loops they have us go through to get the surgery.
Best of luck to you and keep coming back here.

A year and a half later, I'm thinking she heard from the ins co ?
