I've been waiting for someone to post here so I could figure it out....I figured it would be easy enough to ask It can be the result sometimes...as when someone with an RnY needs a revision to the DS but they can't rebuild the stomach...so they end up with DS plumbing but the RnY pouch and no pyloric valve...or when previous surgeries or conditiions leave people able to have only part of their selected wls. Like that.

I was reading an article about this procedure yesterday and, frankly, it seemed rather scary to me. Both procedures have some concerning possible side effects and to combine the two makes me a bit nervous. Isn't this a very new procedure? I hope others who have had it find their way here so that you all can support each other. I hope everything goes well for you and please keep us updated on how you are doing.

I found that article (and more) when I did my research. I made a spreadsheet about weight loss surgery... and then, I admit, I took a chance when asked to be part of the study. I truly believe that my being a "guinea pig" of sorts will help others. Today is one week post-op. I'm in no pain, have just transitioned to a full liquids diet and have a post-op appointment on Thursday. No nausea, no constipation, no diarrhea. Small sips of water 4-8 ounces per hour plus liquid "meals" and I'm a happy camper. Nothing is without effects - and I'll be honest about those. But so far ~ so good! Jacki

OMG! Hello, Alex. We were on Spotlight together when you decided to start the lapband talk site! So how long ago was that? Almost ten years?!?! Welcome! OMFG!! This is insanity!!!! Spotlight has long since passed. I was SO frustrated with the WLS communities available at that time. Next year will be a DECADE!!!!! How are you ??!! Fine...now that I got my band out. And, to tell the truth, I was soundly attacked on LBT (GeezerSue, I think) when I first decided to have the revision surgery. I was there when you had to deal with some pretty iffy moderation and a raving lunatic or two. But that's part of what Pumpkin is addressing. Banded people are almost ALWAYS told that the problem is that they are not compliant. And that just isn't so. Anyway...I'm fine. Mostly. With the band, I lost about 60 pounds (?) and regained more than that. I developed esophageal dysmotility. It was a lousy way to live and it took me eleven weeks after the revision surgery until I knew it was fixed. With the DS, I relost that sixty and another sixty...and than regained about twenty. So the short answer is, "I'm fat...but it isn't killing me anymore." I assuming you are doing fine. You had a habit of that, if I recall! Sue

I would be interested in seeing the article that you are referring to because most of what I have seen has said the opposite. From what I have learned combining these procedures results in better results than each procedure on it's own. Also by preforming the plication along with the band, it has been shown to produce lower rates of band slippage and erosion. Also the plication should prevent being able to "eat" around the band in that instead of food passing from the pouch into a full stomach, the food will pass into the sleeve sized stomach formed by the plication. Also while the sleeve plication is relatively new, other forms of the technique (folding of the stomach) have been used to treat other problems like hernias and GERD

Here is a link to the article tinyurl.com/cpt738s. It is not a negative article about the procedure. It is a press release by LA Bariatrics. The concerns I voiced were my own opinion based on issues I have read about the separate procedures. I was just concerned that combining the procedures would cause more problems rather than less, but of course since it appears to be in the experimental stage, it is too soon to know what the ramifications might be.

Whoo boy scares the bejeepers out of me all this band and plication talk! I'm afraid we are going to see some very sad endings to most of these surgeries. After all we are just now finding that 2-4 yrs after the lap band very many are starting to have some serious issues. To put the band together with another surgery is just plain insane to me. I don't mean to offend those of you who have had it done, it's just that I know how many lies were told by Allergan about the band that I could never trust being part of an experimental surgery, that's just me. I hope there aren't problems down the road but I fear there will be.
