Ok I have a high intensity, high stress, mentally challenging job. This is our worst time of year. Working extra days/hours, faster pace, juggling way more. It's getting to me. I'm in a constant state of "brain fog".
Still eating high protein but I've done some research and the brain burns fat and glucose. So I'm wondering if I could go extra on one of my vitamins instead of adding carbs? I do eat half a banana daily for fiber and potassium.
Any ideas?? I'm starting to not function well at work and there are some working more than me.

Disclaimer- This is what my exp was, you need to do whatever needs to be done to keep your body functioning the way you want it to..
I don't recall when your surgery was, or if you've had full labs yet? So, take this with a grain or two..
My stamina/energy did not fully return for months post op. I think I rounded the bend by mo 4, and started feeling more like me again. I do not believe for me that upping carbs or vites would have helped (vites were fine, B12 etc.. all good.) I kinda recall feeling similar (but less intensely) when I started in on very low-cal diets.
That said- make sure all your T's are crossed, that your nutrition is good, and then do what is necessary to have your body function the way you need it to. No need to be a zombie. I function great on about 20g carbs a day or less and low-cal, you may not. You may need more cals, you may need a touch more carbs spread out across the day.. you may simply need to eat more often than you are now. Or, you may still be bouncing back from the whole deal and just need more time.

Good info Jo, exalt!!
I think I have that sluggishness that you describe - nothing terrible but I'm just tired . . . good advice to keep in mind, that it can take time . . . even with the disclaimer LOL!!!

Ok Count, read back & see that you are almost as far out as I am.. Don't have many other ideas besides nutrition (labs?), hydration and eating enough/often enough. My energy is great, and no brain fog issues past those first few.. I hope you figure it out.

I'm thinking hydration and eating more often. I'm going to add some brain carbs (avocado, broccoli) at the end of my day and go from there. Great info, my labs are good but I have genetic anemia so I still have to take a lot of iron.

For me..."brain fog" has always meant that I'm not drinking enough, esp. when I was early out. and enough, means upwards of 120oz+. I work insane hours, 6-7 days a week and it was easy to fall behind.

Well I'm 8 months post, I can get the liquids in fine now but sometimes if I'm busy I just forget about it. I'm focusing on the hydration and I did add some grain carbs just as a test. So far so good. Usually I start having confusion/fog about 2 so I've got 2 more hours to see if this helped LOL.

I'm someone that just simply needs some carbs in my diet. I get really dippy without them. My diet is great, fluids are great, but if my carbs dip below 20 for any length of time, I'm a mess. My magic number seems to be around 40 a day of high quality carbs, mostly of a veggie nature, but the occasional small amount of a whole grain is good too. We're all different. Play around and see what works for you. All carbs are not evil.
