With gastric bypass how does it work? How long does the weight loss work (as long as I exercise and eat right)? What do I need to do to maintain once I reach my goal weight?

This is the pattern of my weight loss. I lost most of it the first year and then stabilized after about three years out. Right now I'm working on getting rid of a little regain.

In my opinion, the first thing you should do is educate yourself about the different types of surgery available and the long term effects including quality of life etc. In particular, you should research the VSG (also called the sleeve or vertical sleeve), the RNY (referred to as gastric bypass) and the DS (duodenal switch). Once you have a better understanding about the different surgeries and how they work, you will then be able to ask more specific questions relative to the surgeries you are interested in since they are all different. Here are some reference materials for you to begin your journey into figuring out whats right for you... www.dsfacts.com (this is kind of a one stop shop to learn about the DS surgery) obesitysurgery-info.com/rny.htm (info about the RNY) www.duodenalswitch.com/procedure/ds_vs__rny/ds_vs__rny.html (this is a comparison of the DS and the RNY) I dont have any VSG/sleeve surgery links for you to research but Im sure someone will chime in with more info

I already had the gastric bypass and I know what was done to my body but I am not really sure how it works but thanks for the links!

There's also a Maintenance folder in the RNY section that you might want to read.

Thanks So Blessed! I am just trying to figure out what to expect over the next year. Wow you did good in a year's time! I hope I can reach my weight goal of 130 lbs in a year. I started off at 259 and I had lost 30 lbs the last time I went to the doctor...but that has been a few weeks ago. I can't wait to go back for my post-op next Monday to find out how much I weigh now!

Sorry, your post didnt specify that you had already had the surgery...Ive seen plenty of people post losing 130+ lbs in a year or less because I always look at tickers and surgery dates and I remember making a mental note that both RNY and DS weight loss was at a minimum (usually more than) 10lbs per month in the first year (for what its worth)

Yep, it definitely is! I love how the weight comes off so much easier than it ever did. I have always had trouble losing weight
