How many of you stick to this? My doc said to stick to it for life. Just wondering what is the reality of it all.

ummmm.... I may be kicked out of the "I had a RNY" club - but I don't know what the 30/30 rule is. Or maybe I do, and just didn't call it 30/30?

I used to stick with it religiously but once I needed to find a way to eat more often I realized I could have more time if I didn't wait 30 minutes before I eat. From what I have heard there really is no good reason not to eat soon after you have a drink. I've been doing it for months and it hasn't affected me adversely. I do stick with the 30 minutes after, though. That makes more sense and it's really not a big deal. I just set a timer on my phone for 30 minutes and forget about it. Thirty minutes is really not that long.

I stick to it because I do not want to stretch my pouch out or to fill up on fluids instead of food. I have a hard time getting in enough fluids though.

I drink almost to the time I eat. I probably shouldn't, but I'd never get in enough fluids if I followed that rule. However, I always wait at least 30 minutes after, and often it ends up being 60 minutes.

I generally stop drinking about 10 minutes prior to a meal, and wait 30 minutes after.

I.e. when I have a very small pouch day for a few days - that I get painfully full on just 1/2 cup of dense proteins. I would make soups, and stews.... so I can eat real food without stretching the pouch or stoma (slider food is like drinking with meals).

I do not follow the 30/30, but I am a sipper rather than a drinker. It will take me hours to finish 8 ounces. I have trouble getting in my 64 ounces of liquid.

I have not had my surgery yet, but during my nutritionist preop appt, he said he did not care if I drink right up to the moment I ate but while eating and 30 minutes afterwards not to drink.

Actually this is a good idea for anyone trying to lose weight and eat less not just RNYers...drinking with meals allows you to eat more even with a "regular" stomach.
One of my step moms used to be bulemic and that was her trick in order to binge more...drink lots during her meal...consequently it help her purge easier too but her main reason for doing it was to be able to gorge herself.
Dont really know why Im sharing that...lol

drinking sure makes the stomach contents liquify and epmty sooner so not drinking makes u feel fuller. i ususallydont drink with meals
