I'm curious how everyone falls on this one. Do you do the low/non fat cheeses etc, or the real thing? I've always been a real thing kind of girl. The stabilizers and added carbs freak me out a bit in the low/non fat things. What say you?

NOOOOOO!!! And no. :} I have eaten full fat everything from first out. I was a way low carber first out and found that the lower fat/no fat things tended to be frankenfoods, like you describe, and have more sugars and carbs to keep a "similar" mouth feel.
It just really wasnt worth it any way I did the math, and I didnt like the taste. I probably eat more like a DSer than a typical VSGer, but my body just runs best on meats, cheeses, and non starchy vegs. I know some folks are serious low fat folks and it works for them, and I say go, team, go!
But its not for me.

I am trying to the no fat or low fat thing.....I am okay with the cheese, if it is melted on something. But we will see how it goes, since I just started this road.

Three weeks out, so take my opinion with a grain of salt, but full fat everything so far. I already knew going into this that the nonfat stuff makes me hungrier, not satisfied. Nonfat is just so high in sugar most of the time, too, which just doesn't work for me.

Full fat, real butter, half & half in my coffee.. olive oil in my pan, and bacon in my meatloaf! Low fat, fake fat just leads to less satiety and the urge to eat more. Plus, fat is not harmful to anyone, even saturated fats.. so I do not pass up the real stuff. I easily keep my cals under 800 (usually lower) with full fat, and concentrating on only getting any limited carbs from dairy and green stuff.

Its so nice to see that many of you feel the same way. I would be much happier to have my cals a smidge higher to have the satiety. I really feel like most of my weight was gained due to the low fat crap of the 90s. If butter hadn't been evil, I'd probably be 75 pounds lighter.
Plus the fact that I can pronounce what's in the real stuff makes me happy. If I can tell what I'm eating, my body will process it better. I even read an article a while ago that said that we lose weight better with full fat. The fat in our food signals our body that it is ok to release the fat from stores. Works for me.

Butter does not make me giddy unless there's a sleeve of crackers in the house. Or in the neighbor's house. :}

As a pre-op with Type 2 Diabetes, I dont do lowfat products because they usually up the sugar to make up for the fat and thats bad for my diabetes
Post op, I dont plan on going lowfat then either since I plan on getting the DS and will malabsorb 80% of the fats I eat anyway...all fat is low fat with the DS...heres to bacon!

I'm a vegetarian and I eat a naturally low-fat diet.
The only commercial low-fat food I use is non-fat Greek yogurt and that's because I prefer it to full-fat, and it doesn't have more sugar than the regular, which most non-fat products seem to.
My main food rule is as close to the whole food as possible, no processed carbs and it seems to be working for me.

All about full fat -- half & half, cheese, bacon, almonds, grass fed beef, pork, lamb, etc.

I do full fat cheese and mayo, and 2% cottage cheese and greek yogurt, for some reason. I think the low-fat/high grain theory (see traditional food pyramid) has done this entire nation a HUGE disservice, pun intended!

Spent 14 years eating full fat to avoid carbs as I was diabetic/then a diabetic on an insulin pump. A year out from my DS, MY naturally hard to control cholesterol that pre-op without carbs ran 220+ is now 179, my dh (THE BRAT) has a total cholesterol of 139.
According to the Cleveland Clinic neuro we saw there at one time about 7 years pre-op, what we were doing was impossible...eating meat/full fat and having low total cholesterol numbers.

I do full fat. I love my olive oil and cheese and butter. I have very low tryglycerides and low LDL, and High HDL. So fat does not give you high cholesterol, at least in my case.
I only eat low fat, if it is naturally how fat, like an apple or grapefruit.

I do full fat also except for milk because I just prefer 2% milk. I seriously cannot stand low fat foods. Especially low fat cheese...yuck!

I'm mixed. Low fat mozzarella, regular cheddar, low fat yogurts, regular cottage, regular butter, regular ground beef, non fat milk...etc.

I tend to look more at the nutritional profile than things being specifically low fat or low carb. I adapted to skim milk years ago so still use it. Likewise, I generally go with the nonfat greek yogurts for the protein/calorie ratio and blend the sweetened varieties with plain to get the flavor balance that I prefer (still can't take plain yogurt) - much better than the "low carb" artificially sweetened types. Real butter, but cheeses per the application - some shredded low fat cheese works great in salads and have more protein than the full fat types, but the full fat cheeses work better for cooking and melting.
I guess you could say that I'm a semi-reformed low fat guy - gotta have the fats that have the essential nutrition, but then I could never wrap my arms around the ultra low carb fad diets that replaced the low fat diets in the fad cycle - there's too much good nutrition wrapped up with carbs, particularly the complex ones, but even some of the simple carbs (banana anyone?) I pulled a recent week's report for my RD and it came out to average 120g protein, 152g carb, 55g fat, for a 30/38/31% breakdown which is low carb/high protein from a classic perspective. I'll see what she suggests for tweaking this to get the nutrition back in line for maintenance mode when I see her tomorrow.

Full fat EVERYTHING. If your diet is low in carbs, then fat is in no way harmful. Diets low in carbs and high of fat (even without any form wof WLS) typically result in weight loss, lower triglycerides, improved cholesterol ratios, better glucose/insulin control...

Full fat organic works best for me. One exception is Fage.

I feel better when I eat a low carb, high protein and very little processed foods. I am happy to read others have lost weight eating like a DSer.

I use 0% fat Fage yogurt, I make lots of dips for my dense protein to help it go down better. I use 2% milk but everything else is full fat.
