The question is... I hear 3 months. Is that 12 weeks for most people (when they start noticing hair loss) or earlier/later. I'm sure it varies. I'm coming up on 8 weeks and starting to think about what my next hair cut will look like in anticipation of this upcoming right of passage.

My hair loss came later on. It's different for everybody. It was CRAZY scary when it started though. I hated it. Thank goodness for fake hair.

Ah! So there is hope for more time. I am almost certain mine will come during the height of summer pool/beach season. Nothing like wet hair to show you don't have any.

Hi MEZ, Mine hit at 4-4.5mo out, and never got severe, but I noticed it.. several months later it slowed. Now it's back to normal, and I no longer clog the shower drain. I did chop it all off, and am sporting a really short cut, which I love and could never pull off at almost 300lbs! I have thin hair to begin with, so I was fearing it pretty badly.. and my past dieting escapades sometimes were accompanied with massive sheds.. this time, not as bad (prob helped that I was taking better care of my nutrition this time than when I was in my early 20's and didn't really know any better!)

i never thought i'd have this problem. i have very thick wavy hair & didn't experience any loss when i had my lap band.
just started using REVITA shampoo/conditioner/drops & lash enhancers. my hair is shoulder length & i'd rather not go shorter - but will if this doesn't stop soon. had long layers added last wk to hide the thinning areas.
i'm 3 months out tomorrow from revision surgery.

Thanks, everyone. I also have very thin, baby fine hair, and not a lot of it. I will have to go pretty short, too, I'm sure. I'm trying to go gently... a bit at a time. As the weight comes off my face, I'm thrilled to be able to do this -- short hair is so much easier, but I couldn't pull it off at heavier weights without looking like a balloon face!

I did and still do notice a difference how much hair was/is falling out when I started using the Nioxin Shampoo and Conditioner. That thing is expensive, but really last long time... Than that enough proteins and vitamins for regrowth. Only I could tell I lost hair. (the drain).
Almost any surgery - like i.e. plastics - may cause that - to some degree...

I'm really hoping to dodge the bullet on this... I'm eight weeks out of surgery, have noticed no thinning. I've had a few surgeries and never really had problems with my hair, I'm hoping this time will be the same but will ride it out if necessary.

I'm using the Chaz Dean WEN stuff, and love it... good tip on the Nioxin, though I have heard mixed reviews, to be honest. Thanks!

My hair started falling out in clumps around month 3. Still falling out consistently at almost 6 months. Waiting for the day I don't notice the huge clumps in the drain or in my hands. I've upped my protein, but haven't used any of the nioxin shampoos.
I'd like to cut my hair short, but my hair stylist thinks the longer hair is covering up some of the bald spots and a short cut might emphasize them. Ugh. Bald spots.

I'm coming up on 8 weeks and starting to think about what my next hair cut will look like in anticipation of this upcoming right of passage. I never had any hair loss with RNY surgery. Funny thing is I did have hair loss when I had an ovarian cyst removed. But with my Lap Band in 2000 and RNY in 2009, I had zero hair loss (other than the 'normal' shedding). I'm not sure why that was? I was super stressed about the cyst - maybe stress levels contribute? I dunno?

my hair loss just subsided at 6.5 months
It started around 4 months. So about a solid 2 months of hair loss and then it tapered off.
My hair is curly and fine but very dense. It is down to my waist and there was NO WAY i was going to cut it short so i just kept it long and braided most times. When i brushed SO Much hair would come out, not clumps but just excessive shedding- like a weeks worth every time i brushed.
Its okay now that it stopped, i cant say that i can see a huge density difference but there is a small difference.

I'm very familiar with the extravaganza! :-( The dermatologist suggested Rogain.

I've been on Men's Rogaine foam for a few years.. didn't stop the shed post VSG.. but who knows if it would have been worse without it?.. I'm on it for thinning hair anyway and will be for life as I know what will happen if I stop!

A word of caution to anyone using any kind of hair thickening shampoo....
DO NOT lather up your hair and then touch the lather to other parts of your body....that is unless you want a thicker mustache or armpit hairs!!! This stuff does not discriminate about which hair to thicken! ;D

This is something that I am also concerned about. I am only almost a month post op from gastric bypass but I already have really thin hair. I guess I will be going in the next few weeks to get it cut short.

I lost mine on and off for the first year. It comes back though!! Stress worrying about it makes it worse.
