So its been two weeks since surgery and I've lost a whopping 4.7lbs. Yes I did gain 12 lbs during the surgery and that is gone, but less than 5lbs in two weeks?? Considering what I've had done and how little I'm eating, I imagine I'd probably have done the same without surgery! I'm not comparing myself to others, because truthfully I have no idea how anyone else did, but I expected to lose BIG, especially in the beginning, like 20lbs the first month. Obviously my expectations were too high. I'm trying hard not to be ungrateful, it is a loss after all. Any chance the weightloss might speed up a bit?

17 pounds in two weeks sounds pretty good to me. And it's still two weeks till the month is over.
The very best thing you could do for yourself is hide or throw away your scale. You now have a smaller stomach and a shorter small intestine. Unless you consume all carbs all the time, you are going to lose weight. And you'll be less miserable while doing it if you're not obsessing about the speed at which numbers change on some battery operated platform in your bathroom.
Here's a more realistic expectation to replace the one you've currently adopted: When you lose the weight THIS time, it stays lost. Every time I dieted and lost twenty pounds in a month, it found me again in pretty short order. I went through the expense, work, grief, pain and discomfort of surgery for the "keeping it off" thing.

Caprice,
You are SO right! Thank you! I'm putting my scale away now!

I heartily applaud your decision.
And enjoy the feeling you'll soon get of pulling up pants and skirts and they fall right back to the floor.
And shopping for new underpants and bras.
You WILL be seeing differences in your body soon, I promise.

I didn't weigh until my first doctor's visit at about 4 weeks out. I lost 19lbs. I figured I'd never lost that much in a month even though it didn't seem like enough. Everyone had lost more than I had in that first month. Eleven years later, I'm OK with it.

Hang in there. It will happen. Your body has been modified in a way that it's still wondering "What the hell did you do to me?". This is a marathon for life, not a 100yd dash. In the end you will be very pleased. We spend all our time in our skin and the changes happen at a pace we think is slow. When your friends see you in a few months they will be surprised by your appearance. I met my cousin in the grocery store after a year out and started talking to her about her kids and she thought I was some kind of stalker. I had to introduce myself to her. Eat protein, drink water, walk. It will happen.
