My Vit D level was low for the first time in a long time. I changed from the gel caps 50,000 IU to the dry supposedly 50,000 IU.My vitamin D went from 47 to 21.2. No good. I think I am going to get back on the gelcaps. They cost more and you have to have an Rx for them but they work. This is the first time my Vit D has been low since my amputations.

My Vitamin D was 47 2 months before taking the gelcaps 3 times a week. I switched to the dry and it is 21.2. Something is not right. I have been on the gel caps for 7 years and always had a normal Vitamin D the last time it was low was before my amputations.

How long had you been taking the dry when you got labs done?
This is why it is important to keep good records - what you take, track your labs, etc.

Why did you switch if you had no Vitamin D issues? And don't say because I told you to - I was under the impression that your D was low. If your D was fine then you had no reason to switch. But it is bizarre that you wouldn't absorb the dry D…D is a fat soluble vitamin in normal form.

I figured if it was absorbed better then I would give it a try. My Vitamin D was within normal limits of 40-100 at 47 I thought this would make it go higher and it was cheaper than the prescription type.

Ah…okay "normal limits" but still quite low. And this affects your calcium absorption and therefore your PTH.
The gel caps were insufficient. If I were you, I'd take both. Go back to the gel caps and keep taking 50,000 of the dry every day and test again in 3 months.

Ok the doctor had cut me back to 1 a week to see how I would do. When I was taking 3 a week it was higher so I put in a call to get my Rx adjusted. We'll see what he says.

So it's been declining for a year. Which means the gel caps are NOT working.
Stay on the dry D. If you want to add the gel caps back fine, but do not stop the dry.
