Hope you are keeping up your protein, vitamins, and fluids. And some complex carbs and veggies.

Yes maam. Infact yesterday I only had to have 2 shakes, had a 12oz steak, a 3 egg ham and cheese omlette, all kinds of good stuff 231g protein with 2 shakes. Eating sweet potato, brown rice and quinoa, apples for carbs but it is kind of disappointing when I picked up 5lbs the lost 2 of them. I'm not sure what is happening. I'm hoping they don't find anything on my lung but who knows seems like everything else is going to shit on me thats about the only thing I haven't had is the big C. I guess you gotta pay back for all the bad things youve done for your body over the last 53 years.

Stop weighing yourself so often, it makes no sense and will only make you crazy. Weight fluctuations happen for all kinds of reasons. Once every couple of weeks is enough.

OK but I look like a skeleton with a head. dI've been doing this faithfully for 3 weeks and I really haven't gained anything. I am just holding my own. Don't get me wrong that is better then losing but with all this eating I should've picked up something. It's very depressing.

Also Pat, you've been on the wrong track for 14 years. It's not going to turn around so fast.

My carb in take I try to get 50g of complex, Like 8oz sweet potato, one cup or more of brown rice or quinoa, or mixed. honeycrisp apples about 3/4lb each, I try to eat 1/2 an avacado a day for good fats, then the carbs which I get from eggs cottage cheese, swiss cheese, milk, usually 4-6 cups a day not really complex there but carbs.

Sardines, cod, hamburger, beef in general. I don't eat alot of bread because I just don't have room.

I have been trying to take in good fats not crap. I'm trying to learn what is good and get enough fats to keep me regular.

I have been experimenting with carbs to find out what I like and can eat and a lot of them I can get my 50g with one serving.

If you want to gain weight, you have to increase your carb intake. Carbs are what you absorb well. But I don't mean simple carbs - you need to increase your complex carbs consumption - whole grains, legumes, etc. And add some fruit. Eat some potatoes. Sweet potato, brown rice, quinoa - all good, but you need more in order to gain weight. Why are you drinking so much milk?
Also, about not having room - how are you eating? Meaning what portions and how often? You should be eating every 3 hours, and never a "huge" meal. Grazing is best for you.

You need 100g of carbs every day, and DO NOT eat that all in one sitting. Spread it out.
Try eating breakfast, lunch and dinner and 3 shakes every day. Each meal should contain 20-30 g protein and 30-40 g carbs. Plus the 3 shakes. Stop the excessive milk consumption.

The reason for the milk is that I use 2 cups in a shake with 2 scoops of the metagenics unipro whey protein isolate making each shake 48g of protein and not filling like the other protein I was taking which would fill you up really bad. I use lactose free milk maybe I will switch to the fat free lactose free instead of the whole milk. Probably even less filling but I do it for the extra 16g of protein. I think its still there with the fatfree since fat has not protein.

The sardines I eat are skinless boneless fillets packed in olive oil. I really like them.

No no no do not switch to fat free anything. I didn't realize that the milk is for the shakes, I thought you were drinking glasses of milk.

Go with vitalady's recommendations.
What did your labs say - how are your A, D, E, K levels?
And I really, really hope you don't say those weren't tested.

The thing that gets me is I feel better now then I was but not really putting on weight. I am just hoping this thing on my lung is not the big C. Thats about the only thing I haven't had yet knock on wood. I smoked a pack a day or more since I was 17 and joined the army till I was 63 so who knows.

The dietician will be a complete and total waste of your time and he/she will have ZERO idea how you should eat for a DS….will be funny to see what s/he recommends.
Why didn't you read the lab thread here and take the list to your doctor? Come on Pat.
You know which vitamins are fat soluble and therefore not absorbed by us, right?
A, D, E, K. Get them all checked. And get on vitalady's regimen - how many times do you need to be told that? If your B is too high then reduce it.

I did and I had a copy and forgot to take it. I am going to take it to the dietician. It was a last minute decision to let the VA get a lot more involved and I don't know if Medicare will cover all those labs or not. If the CT turns out ok then I am sure the hemotologist will check it out. They have a great lab on site at this med cntr.

Of course if the CT turns something up I think they will pursue that first. I figured I would take a copy to the hemotologist and I don't think he will have a problem with ordering it. I kind of think the same way as you with the dietician but he offered it so I thought I would see what he has to say.

The dietician is a complete waste of time. Toxic levels of vitamin D, blah blah. Won't know why PTH is relevant, etc. Will have ridiculous dietary recommendations. Then what - you 're going to listen to the dietician?
Read the list of recommended labs on vitalady or here and GET THEM DONE.
And get on vitalady's regimen - I will not tell you that again.

I don't think they checked them but I think the dietician I am going to on the 17th will after I show them a pic of this surgery and the recommended tests. If the dietician has never seen a picture of the DS and doesn't understand the DS, how do you think s/he is going to have appropriate recommendations? If you are bringing the recommended labs with you - what help is that person going to be to you?
