IMHO the lap band is a crap shoot and its not worth the risk of having something installed in your body just to wait and find out afterwards whether or not its going to work for you. Just not worth it.

I don't agree that the band itself is a crap shoot if the person is truly informed, the problem is that it has become such a easy a cheap surgery to preform that it has become too easy for semi committed to get. I honestly think it's the drastic combination of people who want the latest fad and doctors who are willing to give it to them that is leading in part to the high failure rate, and it is those that were truly committed that are the ones who seek revisions. It just reminds me of the breast implant industry where it just seemed some women were getting them on a whim and not truly considering how it will affect their life afterwards.
One benefit of the the other surgeries (with the exception of plication) is that they require a higher skill set and will most likely never be offered in mass quantities like the band. I see plication becoming the next "easy to do" WLS that will be exploited especially since it involves no cutting or implants

If you become very involved with the WLS community, you will realize that over the next year or 2. For some reason.........many ppl want to blame the bandster! I have heard this over and over! You will find that MOST bandsters do follow the band rules. However from there out..........YMMV! I was told at the Drs. office last month by one of the staff that they've seen ppl get the band and "not lose one ounce"! Then on the other hand.............some get it and lose ALL their EW.........then develop complications and have to have it removed. Also.........about 20% of bandsters NEVER reach restriction! So tell me what that has to do with being "committed"?! You are new............you see things they way you want them to be. Believe me...........you will feel very differently in a few years!!!
