I have been in the hospital since Thursday morning when I had extreme abdominal pain about and hour after eating. The previous day at Lunch time I had a similar pain and nearly passed out but after and hour the pain went away. After being admitted I was NPO for 24 hours after my CT which showed some back up, but a definitive blockage could not be identified. After that 24 hour NPO period I was progressed to liquids and then full liquids. The pain was fine while on those restricted diets but yesterday I was progressed to full diet and the pain immediately came back. I went back to liquid diet and tomorrow I will undergo exploratory surgery to determine what is going on and then fix it.
The suspicion is a Peterson Hernia that is causing a blockage.

I know two other DS'ers that had Peterson's hernia a few years ago. I think it may also be known as mesentery defect, it has to do with massive weight loss and intestines slipping, from what I recall.

Good luck, Scott - hope they can find and repair the problem. Wishing you the best. Is it your DS surgeon doing the exploratory surgery? If not, make sure whoever is going in there is schooled on your DS related physiological alterations, so they don't make a wrong turn as they poke around your intestines. Shaking critters for ya! Even if you are taking a break, when you find out what's going on and are recovered enough, can you report back what was going on so we know you are ok? No matter what commentary has been going on, I'm sure all of us here hope you do well, and recover fully!

UPDATE!!!!! Scott is doing well, Exploratory Lap surgery found an petersen's defect and a partial blockage. Our DS surgeon, Dr. Marshall, fixed him all up. I'm not sure how long surgery was, but he is resting comfortably and should come home today.
I went up and saw Scott yesterday afternoon. He is doing good, and in high spirits.
Scott wishes to thank you to all that have made comments and said prayers for him during this time.
I'm sure Scott will be back and tell him yourself in a few days. Edited: ok that sounded weird. Scott will tell you himself when he returns..
