Since surgery I cannot sleep at night. It's 3:50am and I need to be up at 7 for a 2 hour drive to see the doc for the first time since surgery. Cannot wait to get the feeding tube and drain out! Almost every night I can't go to sleep before 4/430 and then I'm up by 9 and all day till 4/430 again. I don't know what to do.

You just had major surgery. Your entire system is out of whack. Anesthesia does that. You also have tubes sticking out of you. All of this will affect your sleep.

I've had insomnia since my original surgery over six years ago. Welcome to the club.

Chronic insomnia here. I've had it for over 10 years. My father had it all his life.

For years. They keep trying different sleep prescriptions and I give them a few weeks. But, I refuse to take anything that makes me groggy all day the next day. Defeats the purpose, imho.
You will often find me here in the middle of the night waiting to get tired.
As a new post op, you should be napping during the day, too. That can mess up a normal sleep cycle.

Insomnia all my life, but much worse since surgery. Even after meds it takes 1-4 hrs to go to sleep.

I've had it on and off over the years ever since I was diagnosed with hypothyriodism but the last couple of months it wasn't so bad. Having the surgery and not being able to nap cause of my son though is killing me. I agree Kelly I won't take anything that completely knocks me out at night that if my son woke up I couldn't properly care for him it that makes me spacy all day. I do take melatonin and it helps me get a few hours. Ran out and waiting for it to get her lol

I don't have insomnia other than an occasional night when I have problems but that is due to the extreme stress in my life the last 4 years (it has been really bad this summer). That being said, I don't sleep as much since the DS and I find I don't need as much sleep. It used to be that I needed 9 hours to feel rested, but now 6-7 works for me. I think it is because I don't have apnea anymore, at least not severe like pre DS.

Chronic insomnia sufferer here. I know it's not ideal, but I have a script for Xanax. It's the only thing that turns my brain off for a few hours.
That being said, you still are fairly new post op, so your new body is still adjusting. I hope the removal of the drains help.
