So today it happened - I ate some little smokies ... Maybe I didn't chew good? It was like I was banded all over again. I started to slime and then threw up in my garbage can at work - pleasant i know - but I couldn't get down the hall to a bathroom. I understand vomitting with the lapband because food just can't get thru the opening ... But with the stomach - I just assumed it would eventually pass. My thyroid levels are off again and I have to increase my meds. This has never happened with weight loss - usually as I lose weight, i take less thyroid medication. Is this medicine not getting absorbed because of my DS? I see my surgeon next week and will talk with him. They also said my good cholesterol is too low and I need to get that up ... So I need to start exercising more. Also - my nose is running ALL THE TIME - have you experienced this?

My nose runs ALL THE TIME, especially at work. I never correlated it with my surgery but hmmmmm....

Others have posted that certain meds need to be adjusted after surgery because of our malabsorption.
A runny nose is the first sign for me to put the fork down. Next will be sneezing and the slime. These are my triggers telling me I'm eating too fast and too much. I try to never get to that point.

runny nose is often a signal you are full. Sometimes hiccups too.
Or could be winter allergies from dry office processed air?

My nose runs ALL THE TIME, especially at work. I never correlated it with my surgery but hmmmmm.... Meg, this is what happens to me, too! Ever since surgery, my nose runs all the time. I thought at first it may be just the weather, but clearly it is related to the DS surgery. If I eat too much, it just starts running more, or I sneeze. he continuous running nose issue is annoying, and I have to keep tissues with me at all times. Anyone else have this? Anyone else know if this is a common DS complication?

I know a lotta people post that it happens as a sign of being full, but there is no correlation between the two for me. Just snotty.

OMG! This just happened to me today. For some reason I became very nauseous and ...then my nose started running! And then I puked. Yes- it was band days all over again and I have no idea why I puked. I think it was because I took iron on an empty stomach. But I noticed the nose running. WTH??? Does that even make sense physiologically??

Yucky! Yeah I had that "banded" feeling again a few times in my first 3 or 4 months after my revision. The mouth watering, then the slime, tightness in my chest, gag/vomit eventually. It did pass and has not happened in quite a few months.
I had begun to think that someone abducted me in my sleep and banded my again. Noooooo....the horrors! LOL
You're right, it makes no sense and I'm sorry you had an episode too. Hopefully it won't happen again or at least that it won't become a habit. Hang in there!

So I need to start exercising more. Also - my nose is running ALL THE TIME - have you experienced this? You could have eaten too much or too quickly. Your stomach was telling you, "No." It won't pass. It hasn't for me. If I eat too much, it is coming back up. Eat very slowly. Put down the fork and take a break. Give your body time to realize how full you are. Don't wait until you are very hungry to eat. The hungrier you are, the faster you will eat. My nose runs and I sneeze when I have had a touch too much to eat. It is my "tell" to not even think about another bite. Otherwise, it IS Spring and pollen season. Try some OTC sinus meds. My levothyroxine had to be increased slightly, too, after my three month labs. I was surprised as well. No biggie. It is one of those things you shrug off. Nothing to be concerned about. It remained stable for a long time after that.
