Hi All! I haven't been on here much lately except to post my surgeversary pictures but today I have a real topic. I live in a state where medical marijuana is legal. I am eligible for a prescription due to anxiety disorder and insomnia. As of lately I haven't used any MJ. So it's out of my system. Recently though, within the past 3 weeks actually, I developed loose stool and diarrhea. My diet has not changed. I'm one of the lucky DSrs who haven't had any real intestinal upset from this surgery. At 2 + years out, I rarely have gas and only have a bowel movement once every other day or so. But as of lately I'm very watery at times. Still no gas though. I'm going through a divorce right now which definitely could be triggering my old IBS (which disappeared after the DS surgery), and stress has always caused me to have tummy issues. I wondered if anyone here has had any experience with what affect (if any) marijuana has had on diarrhea. I read that it may actually help elevate it, however when it comes to MJ literature, it's hard to know what's real and what's just "blowing smoke up your ass" (lol) to help promote it's use. Any info would be greatly appreciated! Below are some recent pics for those of you who know me and wanted a visual update! Miss you, my friends! Sheri

First of all, WOW! You look incredible! I have no first hand advice for you as I don't have IBS and fermented grapes are my drug of choice, but I did find this interesting exerpt of a study: Endocannabinoids and the gastrointestinal tract - Department of Physiological Chemistry, Johannes Gutenberg-University Mainz, 55099 Mainz, Germany. (massa@uni-mainz.de) In the past centuries, different preparations of marijuana have been used for the treatment of gastrointestinal (GI) disorders, such as GI pain, gastroenteritis and diarrhea. Delta9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC; the active component of marijuana), as well as endogenous and synthetic cannabinoids, exert their biological functions on the gastrointestinal tract by activating two types of cannabinoid receptors, cannabinoid type 1 receptor (CB1 receptor) and cannabinoid type 2 receptor (CB2 receptor). While CB1 receptors are located in the enteric nervous system and in sensory terminals of vagal and spinal neurons and regulate neurotransmitter release, CB2 receptors are mostly distributed in the immune system, with a role presently still difficult to establish. Under pathophysiological conditions, the endocannabinoid system conveys protection to the GI tract, eg from inflammation and abnormally high gastric and enteric secretion. For such protective activities, the endocannabinoid system may represent a new promising therapeutic target against different GI disorders, including frankly inflammatory bowel diseases (eg, Crohn's disease), functional bowel diseases (eg, irritable bowel syndrome), and secretion- and motility-related disorders. And here is a link to a thread about it on an IBS message board where you can read some first hand experience from people not in the business of growing or selling it: www.ibsgroup.org/forums/topic/145919-medical-marijuana/I hope you feel better soon. Don't be a stranger!

What a nice treat to see your face!!! (Even though all your pics are upside down for me!) I have absolutely no advice on the weed/diarrhea issue, you made my day with your post. Hoping all the troubles 'pass' quickly and easily. You look GREAT as usual! <3

Wow you look amazing! I've seen your pics in the before and after section and you are my go to pics for inspiration. I hope that I look as good as you one day.
As far as your question...I'm not sure about your exact issue, but my son has Crohn's so I belong to support groups for that. Some of the people that I know swear smoking helps them with the IBD. It calms the spasms and that helps with the diarrhea. If you have a card I don't see any harm in trying it to see if it helps.
Good luck!

Sherri!!! So good to see you and holy wow, you look amazing! I"m so sorry about the divorce, I had a feeling that's what you were referring to when you last updated for your surgiversary. I am having some diahrrea issues of my own, never had IBS but I absolutely have a history of 'nervous stomach' and problems even before surgery. I need to a carb elimination to figure out what might exactly be bothering me besides the obvious when I have them (white flour). I have missed you here and in our fair state. somehow we have to figure out a way to have a get together. I know you have to be juggling a lot with the divorce, being a mom of 2, and you have fur babies too.

FWIW, I have major diarrhea problems stemming from my surgery. Weed doesn't have any impact on the diarrhea, but it definitely helps with the nausea that is an occasional ride-along.
And yup, you look fabulous!

The times I have medicated post-DS have been in the evening literally when I am in my bed ready for sleep. I suffer from insomnia and it works extremely well in that regard (too well sometimes - I have woken up in the morning with my e-pen still in hand or tangled in my sheets lol). It has never affected my BM's adversely. Not once.
It's really nice to see you posting again Sheri! We have very similar stats and I looked to your pics/story for inspiration early out. You really are beautiful (inside and out from what I have heard from other members) and I hope you find some resolution to this issue. I would say just try it out. It is legal and available for a reason. I refused for way too long and missed out on many sound nights of sleep because of it. Everyone is so different but hopefully it can help you with your issue!
Take care.

Lisa, thanks for your input! I gave it a shot and it didn't do any good for my diarrhea. But I'm a complete insomniac as well. I got the prescription as a medication for insomnia and anxiety. It's awesome for sleep! I laughed out loud at the thought of you falling asleep with the pen vape in your hand. Good thing it wasn't joint! I love the pen vapes. To me, it's so much better than smoking it. And it truly is a medication for me. So thankful to live in a state where pot is legal to use!
(and yes, our stats are soooo similar!!!! PM me some time!)

I've been diagnosed with colitis..and it happened at about two years out. I'm taking a script for it and it really helps. I have no idea if this is the case for you. If the diarrhea continues...go to a gastro guy and have him run the tests...I hate to tell you it was via a colonoscopy that they finally made the determination. For me it was well worth it - normally I don't have to run to the bathroom anymore.
I wish TX would legalize MJ, I can't sleep and that would really help.
