I had my DS on 12/19 (so about 3 weeks ago) and yesterday I pushed myself up on my chair using my arms but I got a sharp pain on my left side under my boob/ribs (granted I have pushed my self up many times with no problem). So whenever I breathe low, breathe deep, or scrunch my tummy it gives a stabbing pain. It's like I stretched wrong and I caught something on my ribs. Tonight I got up to go the bathroom and kinda felt light headed. Went pee which scrunched my tummy and the pain was still there. After getting up I almost passed out, I have never passed out before and this was totally weird. Ears started ringing, head felt full of air, and I started to breathe hard. As soon as I laid down and husband elevated my feet I was peachy. Is it because of vits? I have been gradually been upping them taking everything now except b-complex, iron, and folic acid. They are in eatable form and make me gag, so I am ordering pill from from Vitalady.
I have had pain like this before surgery when I has pulled something or got a very painful air bubble.
Are these connected or separated? Please vets give me your info! Sorry for this being long.

It may be internal healing or a muscle pull. Let the surgeon know what's going on and let him advise you on this. Please let us know what he says and take it real easy today.

I agree with Gina on the muscle pull...possibly even popped one little stitch. It's worth mentioning to your surgeon. As far as the ear ringing/pass out feeling...sounds kinda like the startings of some dehydration. I would be super vigilant on fluids the next couple of days. Dina frequently recommends post ops drink like 128oz of fluids to stay hydrated. That's about a gallon. And yes--very well explained by that hot blanket if you were sweating all night

I agree that there are 2 things going on - muscle pull and possible dehydration due to sweating. Remember, heat dilates the blood vessels and can cause a blood pressure drop as well when you stand up (orthostatic hypotension).
When feeling light-headed when standing up, sit down immediately. The legs elevated was a good thing you did.
Sometimes intense pain can cause that passing-out feeling. Pretending to cough will stop that vagus nerve response (and hopefully not make the pulled muscle hurt).
Sip, sip, sip!
Hugs, Ratkity

Ouch! Do you have fever or nausea? Just wondering because that is exactly where an abscess developed for me about 3 weeks out... if u don't have fever I would just stretch it out yoga style, nice and slow. I was switched. On 12/16, so we are right there together! Feel better ;D

Thank you for replies. I am on bed rest today and only focusing on fluids. The pain is still there and I am starting to think it might be an angry stitch. When I put decent pressure on it and keep it from moving around it somewhat helps. I was doing so well too, now it's like I went back two steps.

That sounds like a cranky stitch or a cranky forming adhesion. Your faintness would be explained by orthostatic hypotension. Blood pressure drop when you stood up--miserable feeling. Cooking yourself plus maybe not enough hydration to keep up with the cooking would do it for sure.
But when in doubt CALL YOUR SURGEON!!!!!
You're back home, right? What's your backup plan if you need to be seen? Are you heading for Griztown?

Thanks EN for getting back to me. I have spent most the day in the recliner and doing small walks. The pain isn't getting better. I would say it is on the top of my stomach from middle to left side. It hurts when I go pee, which is weird. I try to put pressure on the area but it doesn't help. The oddest movements hurt.
I plan on calling my surgeon tomorrow, if he says I need to be seen I will travel to Missoula. I just have no idea now what is causing the pain. It just erks me I was doing so well, I must have over done it.
