HI y'all! I had RNY back in 2004. SW 304 Lowest 211 Current 226. I have spoken with Dr. Kesheshian and I loved him. I was scared to death of the DS back in 2004 but Dr. K has given me a new sense of what this is really about. I am wondering if, being that I am a revision, I will have success reaching my goal weight because I am a revision. I have been cruising the other board night and day reading so much and learning so much and see a lot of band revisioners and not so many RNY. I have sooooo many more questions for DR. K next time I see him, thanks to your information . Thanks y'all for being so open and candid on the boards. It makes this all seem doable after all.

There are lots of revisions from the RNY to the DS. I'm hoping someone will chime in here but we're mostly all new to this board so I'm not sure how many are watching it closely. On our other board this is a revision section. Perhaps someone can help with getting a revision section on this page as well. At least you've chosen the right doctor--Dr. K is supposed to be one of the best.

Hello Cathy! I am a RNY to DS revision. I had my RNY in May of 2008. My highest was just over 300 (I think--never weighed myself at my biggest). I was 280 day of surgery for my RNY and got down to 192 for about 5 minutes and then started regaining. This was after a bunch of problems with strictures, food intolerances and reactive hypoglycemia. I was revised to DS in April of this year. I was 250 day of surgery and am currently 185. I have been doing very well. I love my DS and wish I would have done it the first time.
Dr. K is great and will take great care of you! I never got anywhere near my goal with the RNY, but I am confident that I will reach my goal now. My goal is 145, so I am getting there. I am only 8 months out, so I have a lot of weight loss time left!

Ive been told to not expect the same rate of weight loss with my revision that I experienced with my original surgery. It tends to come off slower the second time around. As for whether or not you will reach your goal with a revision, I think that depends on what goal you have set for yourself as far as goal weight goes.
You have an excellent revision surgeon and Im sure you are going to do awesome. Good luck

Having a RNY pretty much screwed up your metabolism even more than it was before you had your RNY. Revision patients generally do not do as well as virgin cut DSers. But you will still be far better off than with your RNY.
Is your goal to be a toothpick, or do you want a surgery that will allow you to have a more normal life (better diet, no dumping, RH, etc) while maintaining at a reasonable weight? Just think about you goal. If you just want to be a toothpick, then starving yourself may work out. If you want to get healthy then I vote for RNY to DS.

Thanks for the feedback. No way do I want to be a toothpick. I'd like to be around 175 (I'm 5ft 8). I never got below 200 with RNY and hoping I can with DS. I thought I could do it on my own and am dissappointed I haven't been able to. Such a lifelong battle!!
Reading the two horror stories on the board this week have been a bit intimidating to say the least.....

I am a revision from RNY to DS. You will do fine and the DS beats the hell out of RNY any day. You are in the hands of one of the best revision surgeons in the country, if not the nation so no worries there. IMO you will see much more success once you are a DSer then you ever did as an RNYer.
Everyone's experience with how much they loose and how fast they reach their goal seems to differ. Even if you are a slow looser, it's better then not loosing at all or worse yet, gaining.
And of course… you gotta love Dr. K's bow ties…dontcha? :-)
Good luck and keep us posted.

I am year out from my RNY to DS revision and I would do it again in a heartbeat. My surgery weight was 257 and today I'm at 169. The weight loss has been really slow but my health has improved 100%. Dr. Keshishian is definitely the surgeon to have!!!

There are many RNY to DS revisions here (I'm not one of them). Just wanted to say as a group there aren't as many as compared to other revision types because you can literally count on one hand the surgeons qualified to do this type of revision. Dr K is among the best, so no worries there. You're in great hands.

Yep, I'm an RNY to DS revision. Weight loss was a bit slower, but I was a lightweight going into the DS. I was revising due to medical issues other than weight. Don't get me wrong, the additional weight loss was a blessing, but I was doing it just to get rid of the RNY.
It's a different lifestyle. No more dumping, no more reactive hypoglycemia, no more vomiting - it's amazing. I got my life back.
