Thank you for letting us know about this. As a mom I can't even begin to imagine what she's going through...

There is some confusion as to whether this person is actually Yehuda's mother. She's writing under the name LynnLB but newyorkbitch wrote the following:
Post Date: 1/6/12 11:53 am People - LynnLB is not Yehuda's mom. Yehuda's mom is named Chaya Groden. LynnLB has been a member here since July. The family is still sitting shiva. Be cautious.

I hope the thought was to pass the messages on to Yehuda's mother. The poster title was very misleading though. Maybe Lynn let her use her membership to post. ?

But what does make sense is that she might want to contact some of his friends in case they want to sit shiva with them. HOWEVER, I wonder if a Hassidic Jew is allowed to use electronic devices and the like during shiva. I know my Orthodox friend was contacting me on FaceBook when he was sitting shiva for his father so it was ok for him. Maybe NewYorkBitch will chime in here--she knows much more about Hassidic Judaism than I do ---I'm about as reformed as they come!!! Sheri

When I read the post on OH this am my inner suspicion popped up immediately so I did not want to respond till it seemed more valid.

She posted again on OH. She said Lynne is her English name, Chaya is her Jewish name. You can find her response on the link provided above. My heart goes out to her

She posted again on OH. She said Lynne is her English name, Chaya is her Jewish name. You can find her response on the link provided above. My heart goes out to her Just to be clear - Chaya is her Hebrew (not Jewish) name. It is like a middle name or more like a confirmation name - it is NOT used in general, but only for specific purposes, and it is NOT a Hebrew version of your English name. It is usually given to honor a non-living relative. My Hebrew name is Miriam, the Hebrew version of my paternal grandfather's sister Mariska who was killed in the Holocaust. It was given to me by my grandfather, I believe. It is not my middle name (I don't have one). The only time I've used it was in my weddings which were conducted by a rabbi; thus, in a religious context. I don't know which name Yehuda's mother uses in her daily life, but for a religious notice, her Hebrew name was likely most appropriate.
