I saw something posted earlier when I was browsing with my phone, but I am not sure if the post was deleted before I was able to read it, or I am just blind.
Someone asked if there was a certain time you had to take certain vitamins. I never got to read the response. If someone would like, they can post the link for me if they don't feel like responding.
I know it depends on surgeons orders when to start vites after surgery, and the main ones to start with are Multi, Calcium Citrate, Iron, and (dry) ADEK. (I'm forgetting one, I just know it..) And to get whatever you can in capsules/chewables if you have issues swallowing pills. I will be following Vita Lady's plan when the time comes to add/tweak the vites and amounts.
Any other 'rules' I need to know?
I have been looking thru old posts, and the daily Vites Bites and Exercites too, but would like an 'in general' opinion because what I come up with seems to be all over the place.
Thanks for reading and replying.

Time of day doesn't matter so much as what you combine in a single dose. General rules: A normal human body won't absorb more than about 500-600mg of calcium at one time, so calcium needs to be split into multiple doses throughout the day (I take about 600mg 3 times a day). Calcium and non-heme iron (basically any iron other than Proferrin) should NOT be taken together since they are absorbed by the same receptors, and calcium will bully out the iron. Non-heme iron should be taken with vitamin C for improved absorption. Non-heme iron should NOT be taken within 2 hours of consuming wheat, dairy (calcium), caffeine, and probably something else I am forgetting. Basically, iron is the major pain in the ass There are some additional tips regarding things like boron and vit K1 that others know more about than I do; I've not had a need to include either.

Jill covered the important ones, but I also don't take K with A or E. In fact I try to keep it away from my multi, so usually take it with iron.
Zinc also doesn't play well with copper (I take copper with iron) or with Calcium. There are other minerals that Calcium will bully, so I take it separate from other vites if possible.

My apologies, I was reading a face book page that talked about this. But yes, good stuff I need to know. Now would there be problem with taking a certain vite/supplement with a food or drink, or are we good to go with that? Any bad when taken on an empty stomach?
You all were so awesome and helpful. I appreciate it!

I appreciate it! Zinc and B complex vits are hard on an empty stomach. I get nauseous even if I'm dissolving a zinc throat/cold lozenge in my mouth on an empty stomach. Keep in mind, my stomach is a prissy thing that can go from a touchy swooning princess to an alien making om-nom-nom noises in a NY minute. Hugs, Ratkity

I appreciate it! I have an iron gut, so keep that in mind regarding any thing I say here. I have found that I absorb almost all my vitamins and iron better if I can take them on an empty stomach. Things like iron and hard on many peoples stomach, but if it doesn't bother yours, you may get more out of your supplements if you don't dilute them with food.
