I was on track to get a RNY in March. After being here, doing alot of researchI decided on the DS. I am so grateful now that I am not getting the RNY. When I think about the RNY I almost choke now (you know because you cant drink with your meals ;D).
So the point is, I have a date with a vetted doctor in Belgium on March 19th for a lap DS. I couldnt be happier.
At first I was like "why are they so fucking pushy about the DS?". After spending a lot of time reading everything I can get my hands on, weighing the pros and cons, the DS wins hands down.
Thanks again, Megan

YES! I love the vets, they helped demystify the DS for me as well. Congrats on your upcoming surgery!

Good luck! March will be here before you know it!! I did the same thing -- changed my mind after reading about the DS on the other boards. It's truly amazing how many lives have been changed from those discussions. Who else?

I really don't think that I could succeed or live with any other WLS. I am so glad you found the one that I consider by far the best.

I too am grateful to have found the DS. I was trying for MANY years to get the RNY! I didn't even know about the DS!!! Thank goodness for the Vets as I knew nothing about how to care for myself post DS! Good Luck! You too will love your DS.

Good luck! I, for one, am pushy about the DS because of all the myths out there that scare people away. I think people deserve to know the truth - it starts with awareness of the DS itself, and then the truth about what it's actually like to live with the DS. There are a lot of misconceptions and downright lies about it.

Excellent! I am so much happier with the DS than I could ever be with the RNY. So many people are dissuaded from the DS by the lies and misinformation out there. Congratulations on doing your research and making the best surgical choice for yourself.

Cut once, not twice! I dont know why anyone would want any other surgery than the DS. You meet very very few unhappy DSers. You meet lots of people unhappy with the results of the other surgeries. DSers get a bad rep for being outspoken, but the long term results speak for themselves.
Welcome to the DS board. You made a great decision! Best wishes!

Congratulations on your decision! I have a friend who I'm hoping will consider the DS--she's got her mind set on the RNY but doesn't really know any of the drawbacks of the RNY. I'm a baby DSr and feel so happy about choosing this surgery. I've had nothing but good experiences thus far. Good luck and thanks for joining us here!!!

Congrats, you are making a great decision. I had the RNY and was miserable until I revised. At 5-6 years out I wound up horribly anemic, with esophageal erosion, reactive hypoglycemia, and an inability to even think. Now I'm great and I can eat! Glad you're picking the DS, I wish I'd done it back in 03.

Yay for you! I had an RNY in 2002, another surgery 4 weeks later, hernia surgery a year after that; the downside of the pouch-intestine hookup, worked my tail off in nutrition and exercise, only to find myself leading the same, horrible pre-op life, and I couldn't get under 200 lbs no matter what I did. I knew about the DS but my insurance at the time didn't cover it. 9 years later, I have insurance that does and I revised. So happy for you that you're starting on the right path, and March will be here before you know it!
