Hello everyone, I am new to this forum and am looking forward to having my revision from RNY to DS. My insurance said they would cover it, but I am still a little anxious. As soon as my insurance kicks in I am going to run full speed to get my revision. Hope to have good news soon.

Great! Have you been reading up on the DS? If not go to DSfacts.com and read away. After reading come back here and ask questions. Who will be your surgeon?
Welcome to the forum.

Welcome! Glad you made it here. Lots of good info, both in the subsections Goodkel described and among the wonderful group of people who post here. If you start a thread about revision surgery, I bet the people who have already gone down that road will find you.

Hi, also saying welcome! I had an RNY revision to DS on December 15, 2011 (my RNY was in May 2002). Tons of good information here, I also checked out DSfacts.com. Can you tell us more about yourself, where you are, what surgeons you are looking at? There's a short list of vetted surgeons who do this revision, since it's the most complex of all. You've come to the right place, hope to hear from you!

Thank you so much bboop. I have definitely been reading up on the DS and wish I had honed in on it from the beginning. I do not know who will do the surgery, but I know there is one surgeon in the DC area who does perform the DS. Great! Have you been reading up on the DS? If not go to DSfacts.com and read away. Thank you Thank you goodkel. I have been on here reading several posts and clicking on several links and I am sure this is the surgery for me. Although I was told that they cover revisions if my PCP suggests it, I am still a little nervous because I do not want to be turned down especially when the DS should have been recommended for me the first time. I live in Northern Virginia and was looking at a doctor in the NoVa area who does the DS. The surgeons who do the DS are very few and far in between and I fear having to go too far for my surgery as I will need post care. How did you qualify for the DS after you had RNY? Hi and welcome. Another RNY to DS revision here. Like it or not, you are unfortunately probably going to have to travel or your revision. This is the Mother of All revisions that not so many surgeons do. Im not sure if Dr. Elariny does revisions, but you can check. He is in Virginia. Also not sure if Sudan in North Carolina does them either, but that's another place to check. Otherwise it's New York, Michigan, maybe Nebraska, Utah, or California. We had someone travel from South Africa to California (she was a virgin DS, I think). I traveled from Oregon to Utah. Another traveled from Louisiana to Utah. If you have to travel too, I assure you it's not as bad as you might think. Qualification for revision is going to highly depend on your insurance. I have Medicare, so my qualification was fairly easy compared to others. It's hard to give a one size fits all answer

I believe that Dr. Elariny does do revisions. He's an excellent surgeon and definitely worth exploring since you're local.

Hi, I'm sorry I didn't see this right away, I am recovering from hernia surgery. I think it's important to distinguish that you are not just seeking a surgeon who does the DS, but you must have a vetted surgeon who does revisions. The RNY to DS is a very complex, specialized procedure, and there's only a handful of surgeons who have experience doing this. My surgeon's office handled all the coding and I was approved fast. You know, I've had my fair share of questions, but since I was approved, I never even asked "how" it got approved, so I can check. Can also poll the other RNY to DS revisions on here, there are several of us. The list of revision surgeons includes : Dr. Keshishian/southern California Dr. Rabkin, northern California Dr. Elariny, Virginia Dr. Roslin, New York Dr. Buchwald, Minnesota And Paula's surgeon, as mentioned. Due to the nature and scope of this procedure, people do travel for the right surgeon. All of their offices are skilled in getting surgeries approved. I was very fortunate that I live here in Los Angeles. Please keep us posted, and don't hesitate to also reach out here by PM or email if needed. Hi there, Sharyl! Am I reading this correctly? Did you just have hernia surgery?? Are you doing okay? I'm still trucking along...swamped with care of my mom/husband/work - but I'm doing fine.
