Today is my birthday I am 51 and I am in a messed up place. I have had 2 weight loss surgeries and I am still morbidly obese. I had a RNY in 2005 and a revision from RNY to DS in 2012.
Recently I was inspired by a post I saw from someone I believe her name was Ginger about having her DS revised and about being an advocate for yourself. In her post she indicated that she was not losing weight although she had the DS. That post inspired me to reach out to Dr Keshishian. I have contacted Dr. K and he agrees that the weight I have lost is not what he nor I expected.
I am currently working with Dr. Keshishian to figure out what is wrong. I still lurk but I have stopped posting because I just did not feel like I had anything to say. I guess I lost hope for a while because the RNY did not work for me and it looked like I was failing with the DS also. I have lost 70 lbs since my revision but I am nowhere near goal. I have not even achieved my low RNY weight of 230.
I think I lost the faith for a while but now I am back. This journey for me is about restoring my health and I just cannot give up. Sorry for the rambling post.

I'm glad you're back in touch with Dr. K. There may be a cause for your stalled weight loss that he can help with. And in any event, 70 lbs off since your revision, while all you hope for and need, is not to be sneezed at.
Let us know what happens.

Good for you keeping on. Perseverance seems to be paying off for Ginger and hopefully it will for you too.

Dearest, dear Vee, my heart goes out to you; and I am SO proud of you for posting here and sharing what you are going through. You should no go through this alone, and, YOU or the DS are not failures! Revisions are complicated and tricky, I'm glad you are back in touch with Dr. K. I know this involves more travel and expense but please know I'm here for you, and we have your back!

Happy Birthday and hoping this year ahead brings you the joy in life you are waiting for and deserve! As Sheryl says, you did not fail your DS and it's good to hear that your frustration is not keeping you down. I am sure Dr K will figure it out. In the meantime, we are all here to support you! (((Hugs!)))

Kudos to you, MsVee, (and Ginger and Barb too) for continued pursuit of what you all deserve -- a properly working DS!
I remember going to one of my first ever WLS seminars... an audience member raised his hand and asked the surgeon what could be done for lack of weight loss after surgery. And the surgeon said something along the lines of "We'd have to get you into psych, because at this point, we're looking at patient issues..." The poor guy looked like he wanted to fall into a hole. And the attitude of the doctor just made my skin crawl! Needless to say, I went elsewhere.
Thank heavens for Dr. K who knows better!!!! I'm so glad you're going to him.

Big hugs for you! I have been thinking of you. We never got to meet and I so wanted to. The journey seems so much tougher for revisions. I hope you are healthy otherwise.
Please consider posting your labs and what you eat. Also your complications. Perhaps we can help you explore. You are not alone. We remain DS sistas.

My heart goes out to you. I've not lost anywhere near what I should have and that's including a resleeve. I do have colitis and am taking steroids and I suspect that is the cause...I do eat low carb, but I know I eat more than I should...or maybe I don't. At any rate, you aren't alone and I feel for you.
Hugs

I wish bboop and MsVee would post more often- it would make me feel more comfortable posting more often too as I am still considered severly obese - bmi over 35.

Your candor is pulling me out of the closet too, Vee. Thanks for having the courage to post. I can sooo relate.
I'm in the same place with my revision. Bottom line is I lurk but don't post and I haven't lost an ounce since the 6 month mark... so at 234 I am higher than my low RNY weight of 200ish. It's great to see so many successes here and it's damn painful to see so many successes here.
BIG kudos to you for posting and getting proactive with Dr. K. It's likely my next move too.
BIG BIG HUG... and ugh.

I am so glad my post gave you the courage to explore possible reasons for lack of losing the weight. It's really hard to be active on ANY board when you are not losing like the others. I TOTALLY understand, but that is why we need to advocate for ourselves if we have not lost enough.
There can be many reasons and it takes an experienced doc Like Dr Keshishian or Dr Rabkin to figure it out.

Offering my support to all of you that are having trouble! I encourage you to post and share. I would bet there are others as well. And, maybe we could all learn something from your experiences. You could be helping everyone in one way or another.

Thank you all for the support. I am glad I finally shared this. MsVee SO proud of you for doing this, and glad to see others like MsCello posting too. No one should go through these things alone, and now you can share information, solutions, and I believe there will be. Of course you all feel awful and coming here is hard, no matter how happy you are for others. It would be like reliving our RNY days again, I know how painful mine were, and it was hard to be on support boards surrounded by success stories, as much as I was glad. It puts you on that wrong side of the glass again. Hang in there, big hugs to you, and lots of positive thoughts. Because...! Sisters (and brothers here too!)

Thank you so much for posting this. As you can see, you are not alone or without hope for a fix.
You are a remarkable woman for all the support you've been giving others while you were struggling yourself.
*standing ovation* ~exalt~

I have been on OH since 2008 and almost 5 yrs post op from my DS in January and just joined this board today. I also never made it to goal with my DS and have experienced a 20 lb regain, so I'm looking for some insight and some help. I appreciate your post and know now that I am not alone and ashamed. I've been in contact with Dr. K's office too. Thanks everyone, for speaking up about not having an easy ride.

I also commend you and the other ladies for sharing your struggles. I can appreciate the hesitation to post. Revisions seem to be such a different animal than the virgin surgeries.
I wish for you your journey going forward is filled with pride for seeking out the answers for yourself, satisfaction in your success and joy as continue to live your life and see the positive things you've done for yourself already.
Keep us updated on what his thoughts are. And happy birthday!
