Hi there! Welcome to the site. Well, if you want to get the low-down on this surgery, everything you need to know can be found at dsfacts.com. After reading that site and spending a lot of time researching, there wasn't really anything in particular that I wish I'd known. So, take a look at that site I mentioned, and come back to us with any questions you have! Best of luck!

Coop, From reading the boards on that "other" site...
1) I've come to realize the importance of vitamins BEFORE surgery and getting labs BEFORE surgery to know what could be improved upon to make the recovery process go smoother.
2) You MUST be your own best advocate, your surgeon will care, your friends and family want the best for you, but YOU are the one who will be taking the vits, arranging for the lab work, keeping track of them after, and last but not least, YOU know your body better than any surgeon or nut. 3) Knowledge is Power.
Did you have your phone consult yet?
oh, and welcome aboard. S~

So glad you made it here .
Oh let's see, top three things.....
1. Constipation is at least as common as diarrhea, so much so that I consider it an old wives' tale that DSers have uncontrollable shits.
2. Doctors have NO CLUE how to help us manage our nutritional issues, so it is absolutely imperative to learn how to do it ourselves AND how to educate our doctors to help us.
3. Losing weight changes everything in some ways and absolutely nothing in other ways. The smart thing to do is to go into this expecting nothing to change in your life (beyond what you need to do for your health, I mean) except your size.
Or in other words, WLS fixes nothing in life....But yeah, it does make everything different in some ways.

Three things I wish I had known before being switched:
1. How strange it is to eat and be full with VERY little food. 2. That losing this much weight is a total mindfuck (sorry). 3. How much the extra skin would really bother me. Before my DS I was like, "No way would I ever consider plastic surgery!". Now, I am seriously considering it.
Good luck!
