Hi everyone I introduced my self back in February but since then I have mostly lurked. My revision from RNY to DS with Dr. Simper is scheduled for June 21st less than one month away. Im not exactly jumping for joy with excitement like I was when I was about to have my RNY but I know this is something I need to do. I guess the fear of serious complications and fear of failure again has crept in and it doesnt help that some of my close family disagree with my decision to have this surgery. Even though Im not excited I believe I am ready and I am going to work this to the best of my ability. I am grateful to have this board to turn to and learn from there are some great members on here some who have helped me already. For those who traveled since Im going to Salt Lake City from Louisiana what do I need to bring with me for my trip for surgery and the time after in the hotel?

Hi, I too traveled for revision surgery. I wore lose clothing to change into, toiletries, slippers, Chapstick, phone and charger, Computer and charger, movies, sweater, and lotion for the hospital. I brought water, protein powder, instant soup and broth. I also brought food for my support person like cracker, cheese stuff like that. I was able to drive 5 hours away. If you fly bring powders and check luggage or shop at a local grocery store. I made sure the room had a microwave and mini refrigerator. They served breakfast too. Reserve the handicap room so you can walk into the shower and sit down if needed. I also asked for and used lots of extra pillows.
I had complications and ended staying in the hospital for 3 weeks my husband ate my lunch and some dinners in the hospital as i was NPO after surgery. Now almost 6 months out and down 74 pounds that is all a distant memory.
Best of luck Whit

I brought good helpers! Very important if at all possible.
We stayed in a Residence Inn in a handicapped-accessible suite, also something I strongly recommend. There are a number of extended-stay type places where you'll basically get a little apartment setup. We did pretty much all of our grocery shopping on site.
Will you be flying or driving? If you're flying, will you have a vehicle in SLC? That makes a big difference in what I'd suggest bringing along.

I flew from Oregon to SLC for surgery. I was there 3 days before surgery for pre OP festivities. Best piece of advice...don't take a lot o' crap with you. You won't be using most of it anyway. I took my cross stitching, a book to read, cell phone charger, small sizes of my favorite products (shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrush, powder, deodorant, etc). And a few changes of clothes. One small suitcase and my carry on bag was all I took. I did not rent a car. I instead used public transportation because I was there alone, so I knew driving from the hospital to the airport to return a rental car while high on Tordol and Lortab was not a good idea at all . When I was released from St. Marks, I went from hospital to cab to Salt Lake airport. Caught my flight home the day I was released from the hospital. I too was not all "yippee I'm having WLS" when I climbed on the OR table either. I wanted it bad enough to go through with it, but I did not go into it this time with the same happy happy pie in the sky blind faith like I did with my RNY. But I'll say this, I literally feel abso-fucking-lutely FABULOUS and so happy and at peace. It took me awhile this time around, but I'm feeling my WLS bliss now. Eyes on the prize and keep all the reasons why you are doing this right there in front of you. You only get one life to live. Others may doubt why you are doing this, but it's your life and you have to do what you feel is the right thing for you to do I'm there with you every step of the way. I know what you are going through because I was right there too. And I know what I know now a year into the very journey you find yourself starting now. And lemme tell ya, life is sooooooooo good.

Good luck! For the sake of comfort and swelling, I'm sure you've already considered packing some sturdy slip on tennies and loose lounge pants. I remember not being able to wear pants/jeans for some time after RNY.
