Holy crap. I juat recieved my insurance statement for revision surgery in Dec. it was $134K BCBS is covering 113K. My secondary insurance will cover the difference. Thats a 3 week hospital stay, 2 surgeries, lots of test, drugs, and "supplies". I do not think that includes the Dr's fee. How do people self-pay? I could never have had this surgery without coverage. Whit

The charges for a self pay surgery are very different in most cases. Plus you had bad complications and all, which is a whole different ball game from a straightforward virgin procedure or even a revision that goes smoothly.

That seems incredibly expensive! With the special plan that was in effect early last year at Verdugo Hills Hospital, I paid $14,500 total (self-pay) for my revision from Lapband to DS. Of course, on top of that was airfare, hotel, and rental car. The TOTAL total was about $18,500. That additional $4000 included additional costs for car & hotel for a nearly 2 1/2 week stay - not to mention - charges for changing flights...all due to complications of surgery (abscess and c-diff) - but, amazingly, Dr. K took care of the additional hospital costs, so they were written off!! True to his word, we never got an additional bill for anything from anyone.
This time, for one night in the hospital, plus revision to common channel and alimentary limb, the total was $9,750 - plus airfare, hotel. We'll be making payments for a long time, but it was so worth it - and, compared to the figures you mentioned, was a real bargain!
