I have a very difficult time with calcium. When I take it, I get gas (which I rarely do normally) and then after a day or two I get painfully stopped up and it takes a week without calcium to unplug my bowels. I need to take calcium. I have tried taking just one or two and building up but it doesn't really help. I've tried several brands, Citrical, Kirkland, a few others I can't even remember ... Any suggestions?

Have you taken it together with a decent sized dose of magnesium oxide? Do you take Miralax? Those are the two magic bullets Vitalady uses on herself and routinely recommends, though I don't recall exact amounts.

I take my calcium with magnesium oxide, a prune and lots of water. I also take a stool softener once a day. So far this seems to be working for me. You may also need to add more fat to your diet, this should help with your regularity as well. Good luck, I know how you feel, it took me a few weeks to find what worked for me.

You might want to also try a different type.
There are a few types of calcium that are even more bio-available to us than citrate, but they are more expensive. I also take MCHA (short for micro crystaline hydrxyapatate, or something like that) and also calcium bisglycinate.

I want to echo the advice about mag. oxide. I used to have such terrible problems with constipation until I started taking a dose every time I take my calcium. I also use cream and/or butter on just about everything. I have not been constipated in over a year - since I added the mag. oxide.
Use a stool softener if you need one, but take your calcium.

Another endorsement here on the Mag Oxide. Vitalady recommended it for me, too, and I haven't had problems since.

Question, I take one magnesium citrate daily, is this going to be a problem if I add the magnesium oxide? Or is just two sides of the same coin? I'm doing some research as we speak but thought I'd see what the general consensus is.
EDIT:
So, brief search shows they are the same but that oxide is LESS absorbed than citrate which in us would mean that it would keep things moving when the calcium tries to stop me up?

I have been using Calcet Creamy Bites, and either Gummie Weight Management fiber-2/day, or Miralax- a tbsp a day mixed into my shake. Cant taste it at all. Fresh papaya works great, also steamed spinach. Anything to increase fiber. I'm hypothyroid, have always need extra help in this department, even more now with a high protein diet- pre and post D.S.
