I know many of you from another site, but for those who don't know of my struggle the last year, here goes...
I had an 11cc realize band implanted 5/28/10, lost slowly for a year, losing about 65 lb. About 15 months postoperative I began to get stuck, my band tightening randomly, tho it had only 3.5cc fill. I also started having pain at night that would wake me up, starting in my belly and radiating up to my back, neck, jaw and even my teeth. It was relieved by changing position, drinking some water. The episodes were infrequent, once every 4-5 weeks at first. My doc said any pain lasting less than 2 minutes was not cause for concern, so I ignored it. During this time we were in California dealing with my FIL estate, cleaning out the house, estate sale and remodeling to rent it out...we were gone about 6 months, all told. Starting in March 2012, as my pain, got more frequent and intense, my band was getting tighter, I began to have frequent palpitations. By the time we got home in May, they would persist for hours. Immediately upon arrival I saw my PCP and he sent me to the cardiologist. Over the next few weeks I had a slew of tests, including a stress echo, showing my heart was fine, my BP wasn't, though. It was consistently in the 160/100 range. The cardiologist changed my BP Meds which ended the arrhythmia episodes, but not the pain. She recommended seeing my band doc. I got in the next day and the Esophogram showed only drops of barium going thru and a slight pouch dilation. The PA removed all fluid and repeated the test...my stoma was still narrowed but the barium did flow thru better. She cautioned me that the next few days, I was at risk for a slip, what to watch for and scheduled me to return in 5 weeks for another look. At 5 weeks post unfill, I showed some slowed motility, striations in the stomach tissue, indicating the tissue is gathered up inside the stoma. She suspects I have a band of scarred stomach tissue keeping me tight without fill.
After that, I was symptom free for a couple of months and in the last couple of weeks have had issues with reflux, PB etc. My arthritis is flared and my IBS is very active and painful. My intuition tells me my body is rejecting the band.
I hope to wait until after 1/1/13 to get it out and revise.
