OK I it's official. Clearly I am the first human to have a DS (revision from VBG on August 20) who is not going to lose any weight. I hate my scale like I used too - I'd like to kick it across the room the little lying cheating robot. And we had such a wondrous love affair for those first 4 weeks.A pound a day and more! I lost 35 pounds in the first 4 weeks My dreams comjng true. MAde if all worthwhile -the diarrhea-the lack of energy. No problsm-just keep that scale going down! But now stuck at 245 lbs for 10 days. (Down from 280.) I dont want to waste these precious first months when the weight slips away. And I've been good I swear it. Keeping food diary on myfitnesspal.com. Two protein drinks a day-calcium-multivitamin-follow up MD appointments. Nutrition- calories 500 to 800 a day-carbs mostly under 50. What can I do? Grow up probably- its just so hard to believe I will ever lose the weight. Do I need to follow the always good acvice of Keliblue and est a DONUT? ? Help -all wise reassurances greatly apprdciatdd Mart Helen

I second southernlady...if you cant be reasonable about your weight loss then throw the damn scale away!
You just lost 35lbs! Your body needs time to catch up. Are you taking your measurement? If not, do that now. It will come in handy later when you hit a true stall and the scale doesnt seem to be moving but your clothes are getting loose.
Keep doing what you are doing. Try to get in as much protein as you can and stop counting calories...those numbers just dont matter anymore. Carbs and Protein are all we need to worry about now:)

Ill second the advice already given: chuck the scale out the window! You are going to drive yourself batshit insane with number watching. You've lost 35lbs. in a little over a month. Thats freakin AMAZING!!!!!!!!!! Stop number obsessing. You are going to miss out on some amazing self discoveries because you are putting too much value on what some scale says. I have intentionally never purchased a scale and only weigh myself when I go for a doctor's appointment. FOCUS your attention on the NSVs...trust me, they're coming if they havent already arrived. And just when you think that nothing is happening, your body is going to say "watch this," and proceed to blow your mind. Chill, sweetie....your body and your DS have this. Let them do their thing. Just relax and enjoy the ride. Im a big believer in paying attention to the NSVs. Thats what I do. Like how the jeans that fit me beautifully a week and a half ago can be yanked down to my ankles now without being unbuttoned by my boyfriend (which is another NSV for me). Dont worry, he didnt do it to be mean. He bet me he could do it and I bet him he couldnt. You can guess who won that one. Make yourself stay off the scale and list 5 things that have changed in positive ways for you since your DS that ARE NOT NUMBER related. Ok, listing 5 things is technically number related...but you get my drift

I learnt about metabolic disorder and how it gets fixed with the DS. That is what makes us feel so much better. Our food gets used as energy instead of being stored as fat. It feels as though my veins are coursing with energy just waiting to be used. I can handle the scale playing tricks on me.
You could also consider working on your vitamin regime. I am following the vets here, and not dr K. I got a vitamin organiser, vitalady's 90 day pack, and worked on that. If your body lacks a single nutrient, it will go into starvation mode and you will not lose. Your body stores every little bit it can, looking for that missing nutrient. Now is a good time to prevent problems.

Why are you counting calories? You're not eating enough - that's why you're not losing weight. Your body thinks you're starving it. Remember that what you ate with the VBG is completely different that with the DS. You need full fat food.
Stop dieting! You need to start eating appropriately for the DS.

1. CHILL OUT.
2. HIDE THAT DAMNED SCALE.
3. QUIT COUNTING CALORIES.
Come on, you know perfectly well you're mind gaming yourself with silly bullshit. You're a smart person. So just STOP IT. You're a baby postop. A big chunk of that magical super drop on the scale was water weight. You are not dumping fluid at the rate you were in the first two weeks. CALM DOWN. Follow your program and stay the hell OFF the scale.

Oh, and there is no such thing as "wasting these precious first months." That's bullshit. You are still healing from major surgery. You aren't even far enough along to be in the really "working the DS" place.
You're a revision, so you're carrying the brainwashing from your first surgery. That's all bullshit. ALL of it. Dump it out the window. DS life is different. Well, it is AFTER you're healed from a huge ass operation.

No NO No! I was the only person in the world that the DS would not/could not work for. I swore and swore and worried and worried and then after 3 months of a stand still. Down the scale I went.
The DS is really idiot proof. I am living proof of that. My first year was full of cheats/sweets/fighting all the rules. Second year was conforming nicely, Third year was: Holy heck I need to gain weight. I will be three years out in November and 200lbs down. My first 98 was within the first year. Then it slowed down... but it still went down.
You will be fine. Learn the rules, stop fighting them, trust your DS. Eat high fat stuff like there is no tomorrow and enjoy the fact that your one pound of bacon/with little lettuce/tomato covered with mayo is healthy for YOU now. Sour cream covered pork rinds.... perfect... hmmm... I'm hungry.
Take a breath. Stay off the scale. Trust your DS. You have come to the dark side for a reason. Now enjoy it.

This is so hard and I get depressed over it. Two solid weeks now with the scale not moving an ounce. Poodles- you really went 3 whole months?? Is it normal to plateau from week 4 to week 6 like this? I can put up with all of it so long as I know the weight will come off. Trying to trust my DS.

Mary, I've had a number of stalls - 8/7-8/19, for example, where I was stuck at 281-2, and then this past week where I am stuck at 262. I just figure it is a combination of my body adjusting to the losses and water retention. Slow and steady wins the race.
I have lymphedema so I weigh myself daily to make sure I'm on top of the situation if fluids starting building up in my limbs.
My (nearly) daily history is below.

There is no magic in surgery. It takes some time and yes plateaus are kinda normal so just hang in there.
