So today is day 27 after Dr K worked his VBG TO DS magic. I have done well- some fever and EXHAUSTION not sure if normal to be sooooo tired. Sleepjng plenty- 2-3 naps a day. Close excellent medical supervision. Love mY local MD. Antibiotics potassium- now it is all coming back to good But still exhausted! Gjuess its normal. Walking again now 6xday-5 to 10 minutes. Should help. Protein and vitamins now in the groove finally!
A few diet questions: I had raging diarrhea from day 5 to day 15 or so. Now it has settled thank gooodness do not wish that on anyone.
Because of this I could not see "how this food affected me" or "that food." They all affected me the same. Raging diarrhea. So I just ate what I wanted from Dr K's first month list. Then I tried sushi- meat- bread- all terrific all the same - no specisl reaction.
For the last 10 days my intestines have been a lot more lady like!
So how do you know when you eat something that disagrees?? Today for the first time I felt gas and pain in the early AM so maybe that was the clam chowder made with real milk while my milk has all been soy.
Can you tell me what foods cause trouble for you?

It varies for everyone, but typical early offenders are milk products, very fatty foods, high fiber foods, cruciferous (cabbage related) and some other veggies, especially raw ones. Tomatoes and cucumbers are frequently troublesome.
Many people do not tolerate ground meat well at first. Some people do well with bean products, others don't. Potatoes are iffy for some people.
It's time to just start trying new foods, one at a time, concentrating as close as possible to exclusively protein. If you get a bellyache, nausea, gas, whatever, don't eat the most recently added food again for awhile.

I'm 5 weeks postop today. I was having some problems like that. Figured out lactose is a problem. Now I use lactose free milk and yogurt and take lactaid with other dairy products. I have also found simple carbs make me bloated and gassy, even in fairly limited quantities. When I am a good DSer I toot less than before surgery with my high carb diet and my BMs are relatively normal.

Beans and applesauce are mine so far-Refried beans. In me they caused stomach grumbling and cramping and eventually frequent diarrhea or feeling like I had to go...
I log my food on myfitnesspal and note when 'problems' ok. You notice patterns quickly this way.

Started myfitnesspal this week-love it! Good idea to look back at those records to remember what might have set off a reaction. Thanks!
