My revision from Band to DS is scheduled for October 1st.. My Pre-op day is September 28th. The dr's office told me to start on a liquid diet on September 24th. They said to consume at least 4-6 protein shakes a day. Any soup as long as it is strained. Sugar Free Popsicles and no caffeine. I had to fill out a Leave of Absence form at work today. Wow, that makes it real. It made me sick to my stomach... I am really scared to death.. I put in for 4 weeks off. Hopefully that is long enough. I am a technology coordinator and sit at a desk. I have full support from everyone except my husband . He told me I am crazy to put myself through this and it most likely will not work. I know the reason he says this is because my band failed me. I am really upset with my hubby, but my mother and sister are going to come stay with me and help.

Hi, glad to know you have a date, and understand the mixed bag of feelings. Any chance your husband is just skeered for you, sometimes that's how they 'show' their emotions; or skeptical about weight loss surgery, not really understanding just how different this procedure is from a lapband. Also not uncommon, no matter how much you explain, guys will lump it all together. Hang in there, and lean on mom, sis and us in the meantime.
As for recovery time, everyone is different, and it will depend on the status of your band once they get in there, if there's scar tissue/adhesions, etc. normal in our revisionista world (I revised from RNY). If strategically it won't cause you a problem at work, you can put in for 6 weeks to be safe, and if you're feeling up to it after all, go back sooner? Whatever will work for you, based on your job demands/pressures. Just want to make sure you have the time you need. Four weeks definitely isn't impossible.

Good luck Fergie. I will be starting my liquid diet on 9/26. I am sorry hubby isn't being supportive. It is all the more reason to rock your DS.

Hang in there Fergie. He will come around. Remember, he's seen a failed surgery, and he's scared for you. He cannot comprehend how different the DS is from the band. He'll have to experience it along with you .

I had a lapband from Feb 2009 to Feb 2012. My husband watched me suffer through three years of vommitting, not being amble to et anything but ground and processed meats and almost no tolerance for raw fruits and veggies. I lost no weight and ended up eating crap all the time because it went down so well. When I mentioned having another WLS he was more than skeptical. I managed to get his reluctant support and now I am one month postop. I feel amazing. You just can't compare the DS to the band. Now all I eat is healthy, my appetite is really well controlled (it never was with the band...I was always hungry but just couldn't get full, it was awful), and I feel soooooo much more normal. I'm also losing really well. I can tell my husband is happy and relieved I am doing so well and not having the same issues I did with the band.
I think you're making a great decision. I'm sure your husband will get on board when he sees it is nothing like the band and that you feel so much better.
I was going to take 6 weeks off work but ended up going back after 4 1/2 weeks (this past Thursday). I'm more tired than normal but otherwise fine. I sit at a desk all day too.
Good luck with your surgery. Jenn

How exciting to have a surgery date. Don't worry about your husbands lack of support right now. Once he sees the weight dropping off and you getting healthy, he'll change his tune. Best of luck to you.

I am so sorry to read that about your hubby. I am banded too...and am waiting to be in your shoes! Honestly, at this point...being banded since May 2007 and losing approx 12 lbs....I am so determined to get this thing out (I've had the SAME problems as Jennyfromthenorth) I would be doing this for me and only me...my husband already knows how strong of a personality I have that nothing is going to stop me. He worries about the after affects of the DS. I know that there is parts of both of us that have lived through the failed banded life and you fear that no wls will ever help you get to your healthy weight. How could it not go through our brains? This will work. This will work! I am sending you positive thoughts and prayers on your exciting new journey;) This time next year we won't be able to stop posting pics of the new us's ;D
